"I've learned that ... " In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah (on
her show) for Dr. Angelou's 74th birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was "exciting." Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day... like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist first, she said. The audience laughed so hard they cried. Dr. Angelou also said: "I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life. I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life." I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one. I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I've learned that I still have a lot to learn. I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." | |

i just love angelou. her words are very inspiring and wise.
there! now i sound like a hallmark/oprah moment 
but it's really true about her. the only thing i read from her was "i know why the caged bird sings" i am in awe of how much she did in her life. i really admire her. | |

I'm only in my early 30's and all I got to say is that growing older SUCKS big donkey dicks.
I absolutely hate it with a passion. My smooth silky skin is now has moles here and there, and it will cost me a fortune to remove them. My hair is still thick, but I have to excercise much more than I used to in order to stay in shape. I hate the fact that I know maintain a standard of living that REQUIRES me to care about my job, and I absolutely HATE the fact that my friends are all getting married. To me the most fun a person has in their life is in their early to mid 20's. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are benefits to growing older--you see things a little more level headed then those pesky idealogical kids do--but no matter how you slice and dice it, it's much more fun, exciting and vibrant to be young. Else, the cosmetic section of department stores wouldn't take up half of the first floor, and Farah Fawcett would still be gracing the cover of magazines. growing oldder sucks. It really really sucks. | |
