stupid question

im thinking about getting a tattoo and im pretty sure it will be the prince symbol. i am a fan but probably not as big as some of u on this site, so heres my question... what does the symbol mean?

I think it more or less symbolized him...the combined male and female symbols represent his dual nature, his yin and yang if you will. His feminine and his masculine sides which he sang about on "I Would Die for You"- "I'm not a woman, I'm not a man, I am something which you'll never understand". The horn shape across the front represents his love of music which runs so deeply within him.
The symbol without the horn can be seen as early as in Purple Rain, at least.
I suppose when he figured out that he should add something to express music, he found a true representation of himself. Maybe then he realized naming himself that would help in his battle with the music industry (as it did) and the ball rolled from there.
Just my interpretation.


I never really thought about it like this before, thanks for bringing it up. Interesting....

the symbol has been done to death... why don't you look through all the album art and find something different?

but if it is the symbol you want, i'm sure it will look great biggrin

i have never seen anyone around this small hick town with the prince symbol tattoo lol i was also thinking of a small black kitty but im sure thats been done to death....
