I Made a Surprising Discovery Today.....

I discovered that full-service gas stations are still in existence! The way I found this out is today when I stopped at a gas station to fill up my tank. I noticed that the gas tanks were the old-fashioned kind, but I didn't really stop to think about it. I took the pump, stuck it into my gas tank, and started fueling up.

Within a few minutes, a man came out of the gas station's building, walked up to me, and said, "Can I help you, ma'm?" I apologized to him, told him that I did not know that the gas station that I was at was a full-service station. I also told him that I just starting pumping gas, because I was so used to doing it myself. lol The man said to me, "Well, that's good!"

He then asked me how much gas I wanted, and I told him to fill up the tank, since my tank was almost empty. I gave the man my money to pay for the gas, and he went back to the building to get me my change. I asked him if I should follow him, and he said, "No, I'll bring it out to you." So I jumped back into my car (because it was freezing cold out today!), and started up my car to get the heater running again. The man came out and gave me my change, we chatted a little about my car (he told me if I ever needed to have my Toyota serviced to bring it in, since he has been working on Toyotas for the last 35 years), and that was about it.

I guess I'm surprised by my experience, since with it being 2005, I just readily assumed that all gas stations were now, for the most part, self-service. I know that all gas stations still have a few pumps that are full-service, but it seems that not too many people use them. It was kind of nice to have that old-fashioned one-on-one service that you don't get anymore. biggrin
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

My town has a full-service station but I never go there because I would feel weird having someone pump my gas. I like to deal with as few people as possible.

Did you know that in New Jersey all gas stations are full-service because it's against the law to pump your own gas? Well at least I heard this to be true.

I hear ya, I like to pump my own gas, pay for it, and then go about my merry way. I didn't know that it was against the law in New Jersey to pump your own gas. omg i have some relatives who live in New Jersey; the next time I see them, I need to ask them about that.

I would imagine that the full-service gas stations would still be prevalent in the small mountain towns. smile

Yup, there sure are, which is kind of nice. Nice in the sense that with the way the world has changed so much, some things have not.

biggrin That is great, especially when you have a small child in your car. I would imagine that it's very convenient too.

I see people have already commented on this, but I used to live in New Jersey, and that is completely a full-service state. They definitely still exist.

I've been back in the midwest for a few months, and I'm getting used to self-service again...

I feel like a wuss if I don't put the gas in myself, although some of the gasstations where I live have some major hunk attendants pumping gas...
