But disagreement is a great deal of what makes philosophy, albeit sometimes objectively and playing devil's advocate. Without differing views there really can be no philosophy. Posit an argument, posit an alternative, and work through all the potentional permutations in search of some sort of logical clarity using arguments for each position. Disagreement is a prerequisite for philosophy. A good philosopher, if philosophizing alone, would always attempt to question their own ideas with as many potential opposing arguments as they could conceive of, even if their view was one held with great conviction, just to test the viability of their own philosophy. ... I do this ALL the stinkin' time.. I do that around here, too...(heh)..to the point that Aerogram said I have a Contrarian Evil Twin, because he picked up on the fact that I was indulging in philosophical debate a lot moreso than stating my own beliefs...
