Fantastic Four Film Anyone as psyched about this as I am???
Opens July 2005. The Fantastic Four were one of my favorite comics as a kid. I truly hope that this movie does the brand justice. http://www.apple.com/trai...stic_four/ By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

You're welcome. I'm praying that it comes out more like Spiderman and NOT like Daredevil. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Looking forward to this. Comics to big screen are always questionable. But this looks pretty good.

I disagree. Daredevil was cool, especially after you overlook the fact that Michael Clarke Duncan played Kingpin. Now the Hulk sucked more balls.

I already did a thread on this one:
http://www.prince.org/msg/100/130318 Now that I've established my pioneering credentials I have to say I WASN'T excited until the trailer. The script review I read was pretty awful, but now I'm a tad bit relieved. The trailer looks great, and very true to the spirit of the comic. The Thing doesn't look right, but I think they were going more for Kirby's original design for the character than the more familiar one of today (perhaps, as the film's progress, he'll evolve into the current look? Here's hoping) There are some changes, but most don't look too bad. For one, Doom is essentially the "Fantastic Fifth" in this flick, being that he's on the ship when the "cosmic anomally" hits (no longer is it cosmic rays). His armour is organic in nature, instead of being something he puts on to cover his scars. Those of you who've read Ultimate Fantastic Four will recognise this as basically what they did in that book. Essentially, they are crossing the classic Lee/Kirby origin with the Ultimate universe version. Still, Doom is a meglomaniac who blames Richard's for his condition, which is at the core of the character. Doom isn't a Lataverian dictator either (although, most comic-geeks know that he didn't start off that way. After his origin he TOOK OVER the country). In the flick, he is the CEO of Lataverian Industries, a company named after his country of origin (which still leads to the possibility of Doom eventually becoming dictator there). Doom and Reed were college roommates and friendly rivals at one point, but went their seperate ways (just a slight tweak from the comic). Doom's company enters into a venture with Reed's to study the anomally. Oh, and Alicia Masters is black. These differences aside, that trailer LOOKS like the comic I grew up with. Alba DOES look like the young Sue Storm (and she was the one I had the most reservations about). Doom's look is great, very much in keeping with the comic, without being cheesy. Reed looks cool. Johnny's "flaming on" is just perfect (still think they shoulda bleached his hair, but that's nitpicking). Oh, and Chicklis as Ben Grimm? They couldn't have cast that part better (and, if he nails the character, I will totally forgive the less-than-perfect look they've given him). All in all, it looks.... wait for it... you know its coming, don't you? I just can't resist... FANTASTIC!!!! ---- [Edited 1/21/05 9:19am] Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Well, I think it will be worth the price of admission alone to see Ms. Alba in a skin-tight blue costume. Mmm, mmm, mmm.
Everything else we be considered after I get enough of that. Then again... can anyone ever get enough of that?

I disagree. Daredevil was cool, especially after you overlook the fact that Michael Clarke Duncan played Kingpin. Now the Hulk sucked more balls. I really can't figure out why so many folks hated Daredevil (plenty loved it too, it should be said). Is it just Affleck hate?? Personally, I thought Ben did a damn good job. He had so many subtle traits that WERE Matt Murdock. Colin Pharrel NAILED Bullseye. No, its not the same costume, but so what?? The costume from the comic is retarded anyway, and would have looked sooooo friggin' stupid on the big screen. His CHARACTER was JUST LIKE his counterpart on the printed page (especially Frank Miller's take on him). Michael Clarke Duncan, well many folks didn't like him as The Kingpin, but the only reason anyone seems to give me is "because he's black, and in the comics he's white". Yeah, so what? Its not like they're doing a Black Panther movie and changing the lead into an asian. Other than his race, Duncan is perfect for the part. The Kingpin is not fat, but rather, overly developed muscle. Duncan fits this to a "T" (and, can anyone name another Hollywood actor who is built like that??). Duncan pulled off the arrogant crime lord perfectly. Plus, as Duncan pointed out, in the 60s it made sense to have the Kingpin of crime in New York be a white dude. Nowadays, it makes more sense for it to be a black guy (Duncan's words, not mine). The fight scene between him and DD was so great (I just wish it was longer). Garner as Elektra. This is the one many people site as their problem with the flick, mainly because she doesn't look Greek. I do agree with this, but I think the filmakers were more concerned with getting an actress who could pull off the physicality of the role, which Garner had no trouble with. Some folks had a problem with the changes to the character herself, and the alterations to the story therein. Again, valid argument, but you have to realise that her character was basically combined with the character of Echo (from David Mack's runs on the book). This was to make her character translate a little better to the screen, as well as to make her a bit more likeable. In the comics, Miller had the luxury of telling Elektra's past with Murdock over the course of several issues. This isn't quite doable in a film, especially one that has to have DD's origin thouroughly explored as well. Using Echo's character traits and history (combined with Elektra's own) made her more sympathetic to the audience. If they had tried to introduce her as she appeared in the comic, the audience wouldn't have given a shit when Bullseye kills her, nor would they have understood Matt's love for her. She would have come across as nothing more than a psychotic killer. I thought the action sequences were great, and the look of the costume translated so well to the big screen (making it a functional leather costume, yet still with the stylings from the comic, was a genius way to go. I really wish the producers of Batman Begins had taken a hint from this film. While I don't dislike that costume as much as TheBatman does, I still think it could have been better). Oh, and the "Radar vision"? Fucking brilliant! (They actually used a military computer program that tranlates radar into visuals!!!) So, why the hate??? I don't get it! I agree with TheBatman that it was FAR superior to The Hulk, which squandered a perfect cast & director with shitty effects and a bad script (why the fuck they didn't just hire Peter David to write the script in the first place is beyond me. They borrowed heavily from him anyway with all that stuff about his dad.) Disagree completly. They are very different, on many levels. Comic films are now a bona-fide subgenre, and are not likely to go away anytime soon. If you don't like them, no one's forcing you to see them. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Oops-! Sorry about that Master...although I swear that I searched the site for the keywords "fantastic four" before posting and nothing came up. Regardless, I agree with what you said. The trailer looks awesome. The Thing looks strange...but they probably ARE tailoring it to the original design. Personally, I would've much rather have seen a CGI Thing than a foam costume one. I also can't get past the "fifth fantastic" Doom. WTF? I truly hope they make this work. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I have a bootleg copy of the old Fantastic Four movie that they made in the early 90s. It's really terrible--almost as bad as that Captain America movie with Matt Salinger.

Trailers can make virtually any movie look great...they even made The Hulk look bearable...
I'm still not looking forward to this movie... Incorporating Victor Von Doom in with the origin of The Four is just bad storytelling and the movie already deserves a few knocks for that. I realize that the argument can be made that the movie has only so much time in which to tell a story...that's fine...but, I'm quite sure they could've fit a few extra minutes in to give a better backstory for Doom. And, once again, I will go on record as saying that I don't like Jessica Alba as Sue...Sue is the ultimate MILF and not a model (like Mary Jane Watson is supposed to be, but isn't in the movies). I haven't given any thought as to who would make a better Sue...so, I can't offer anything there. The rest of the cast are a bunch of no-names that I can give no opinion about because I don't know their previous works...I only recognize Michael Chiklets (or whatever the fuck his name is), cuz I've seen his name in voice credits on The Family Guy. The special effects look better than what they butchered The Hulk with. Perhaps they learned a lesson from that and hired someone who isn't on "Crazy" George Lucas' payroll. Oh...and btw...when Daredevil came out, everyone seemed to love it...now everyone hates it. Even Entertainment Weekly (a magazine I used to regularly agree with, now I'm not so sure) went and changed its collective mind. That's just bullshit. I thought it was a very good movie and it's obvious that the whole cast worked incredibly hard to make it that way...especially Ben. He worked with a blind actor daily to get the nuances down...on top of all the physical work he had to do underneath a bunch of leather. I concur that this sudden negative backlash is just more Ben-hating crap...to which all I can say is, get off it already. And...I'm done...

...okay... I'm gonna hold my opinion of Roger Corman's FF movie until I see this one. His was horrible, yes...but, I'm not expecting this one to be any better... Incidentally...I'm not going to chance wasting my money on this potential flop...I'll be DLing it first. If I like it, I'll get the DVD... And...I'm done...for real...
