Not Thanking You in Advance

Thank you in advance!!! mad What is THAT? Thank you in Advance! Maybe Fuck you inadvance...but no Thank you.

What does it mean??? It's like by thanking me in advance, you assume I am going to do as you ask? Like I don't even get a "yes I will" or "no I can't" anymore? What happened to plain ol Thank you? It implys that you will do said task just not in advance.

Like Rava says there is no such thing as a big or small coincidence...there are simply coincidences. Well I say there is no such thing as a Thank you in advance...there is just Thank you. It was simply something someone put on some note and it looked cool and then everyone adopted it....like lemmings.

Thank you

People say "thank you in advance" probably because they may not have an oppurtunity to thank them at the appropriate time. Its just good manners IMHO.

I don't say that, but I do use the 'pre-emptive wave' wave in traffic. You know, the 'thanks for letting me in as I cut you off anyway!' Works every time! big grin

see that's at least real time. Do you wave like 3 min in advance and then cut in?

No, I wave as I'm going in. And I always sign my emails thank you. It is courtesy, and suggestive to get them to cooperate. I think you're just pissed off at the person who said it, not the term in general.

Oh no...Certainly not the person. The phrase drives my nuts. I see it all of the time.

Byron

To me, "thank you in advance" is the same as saying "I'd really appreciate it"...they also get a "thank you" after the fact as well.. nod

I also only use it when I'm asking something that I know isn't a big burden...

"Could you email me that photo again that you sent me last week?...thanks in advance.. smile"

But I would never say, "Could you come over and help me paint my house??...Thanks in advance"...lol

I think it has more to do with politeness, perhaps...just saying "thanks" might be taken as if you're not giving them an option, like you KNOW they'll do it...as where "thanks in advance" gives the impression that IF you decide to do it, then this "thank you" is for then...

Well, I can say this. You'll not likely ever see it on an official letter.

Your parents teach you Thank you and Please.

See the thing is that "Thank you" comes after the task. "Thank you in advance" is a preceeding thank you. But they both mean the same thing. One takes less time to write. It's a PC thingy that no-one bothered to question when it started. Probably started with some bitchy secratary, who never got people or a certain person to do what they wanted. So they started with the "Thank you in Advance" Bullshit to make it even seem Cold and Callus for not doing said task...I mean they have given you the thank you already. How dare you not do as asked.

Maybe it's a Karma kicker... one can say for everytime I use the speaker phone...I get one "Thank you in advance".
