a few weeks ago we took IQ test in Class, and i just got the results in the mail

it said i have 120 IQ

but i don't know wtf that means?


Can anybody clarify it for me?

IQ tests measure our ability to problem solve, they are not necessarily proof of how smart you are they just gage potential. In education, we use the results of an IQ test as part of the testing involved with classifying a student as in need of special services and/or special education.

120 is about average.

IQ's or Intelligence Quotients, are variable depending on the day and your mindset , breakfast/bloodsugar etc, as with SAT's, but typically are within 10 points +/- an accurate showing. They are decided upon by taking your cognitive abilities in various areas and comparing them to the rest of the population (as an adult, as children they compare them to others the same age etc) Therefore 90-110 is "average" in that 100 would be...100% of the average, and the range is always +/- 10 points. Under 70 is considered mentally deficient("retarded") and some have as low as 20 and 30, though they aren't functional without 24 hours care...like a 2 or 3 year old. Example...you score a 120. Your intelligence is about 110-130% of that of the "average" adult (or say you were 10 at the time...your intelligence is about that of an "average" 11-13 yr old rather than the "average" 10 yr old) generally 140 and up is considered "genius" though intelligence varies in many aspects.
