About 2 hours in. And Nope. He announces the clip of the movie (as it's nominated for best film) which is right before they do the nest actor award.

Let me be the first then: Jamie did an outstanding job in Ray but Hollywood will not award him the Oscar. It was be too much of the right thing to do.

Have the Oscar nominees been named yet?

How many times has Hollywood given the Oscar to the person who deserved it? How many freakin' years did Hollywood overlook Speilberg?

But Oscars tend NOT to have surprises (although the Globes do....both those people won for "Closer"....didn't that movie kind of tank?). If anyone other than Jamie wins, (the close second appears to be "Sideways", but consider no actors won Globes, that might be a sign), it would be a shock, which is not very Oscar like. I've never been all that surpirsed at how the Oscars turn out, even though I usually wish for something different.

I'm just gonna cut and paste my post from another thread in another forum on the same topic. Glad he won. Speech was touching, kinda sweet, kinda funny, kinda too long. His nod to Prince made me giggle. Two In Living Color alumni in the same category, too. smile

well, to be fair speilburg has a tendency to over dramatize and over emotionalize in his movies. the only one of his films prior to shindler he desereved it and didn't get it was the color purple..

all in my opinion, of course.

now (also in my opinion) you wanna talk about overlooked directors, check out P.T. Anderson, Tim Burton (although not of late), Pedro Almodovar, and David O. Russell, all of whom are cutting edge and inventive, and excepting almodovar's two wins for best foreign picture, but no director nod, not a nomination between them.

and on a feminist level, as much as i dislike streisand, she really deserved a director nod for yentl and prince of tides. and penny marshall for league of their own, and some would argue for big. but directing is such a rigidly boys club, there have only been a small handful of women nominated in 77 years of oscar.

Add Robert Altman to that list - 5 nominations and not a single win. Martin Scorsese has also never won. Those, in my opinion, are also overlooked. Back to your regularly scheduled thread...
