are they the same? which is better? also i heard about "creative suites" what are these? what is useful and what isn't?

adobe photoshop is used for editing photos and creating graphics

illustrator is used primarily for graphics (I think)


photoshop elements 3 is a smaller version of photoshop, I think

Photoshop is THE program for photo enhancements, editing and photo graphics...

Illustrator is used for creating vector graphics...as well as, if you're creating something with text, you should use Illustrator.

Not sure about photoshop elements...

Photoshop CS is the latest version of the full version of Photoshop.

Photoshop is geared toward editing raster-based images. Illustrator is primarily for editing vector-based images. Photoshop Elements is a stripped down version of Photoshop for the home user who doesn't want to pay several hundred dollars for the full version.

Fireworks is another image editing program aimed at creating graphics for the web. It has a nice interface and alot of useful features for web developers, but it sucks for trying to do print or other media.

Adobe makes a product somewhat similar, called ImageReady, that comes bundled with Photoshop.
