I got paid today. I get paid monthly and my wage went in the bank at midnight. It's 00:37 in the UK right now...

Well, I ran out of cigarettes at six p.m.

All evening I was snacking on cheese puffs and grinding my teeth because I didn't have any cigarettes or the money to buy any.

So I just phoned a cab at midnight, got it to take me to a 24 hour store three miles away, went to the ATM, bought 20 cigarettes and got the cab to wait and drive me back home.

I was desperate. Now that I've just smoked a cigarette, I realise how much money I've wasted but I really don't think I could have slept tonight without nicotine. I was starting to get light-headed and shakey.

I am so addicted.

Don't ever start smoking!

I know! But I don't like walking after midnight on my own. I'd have to pass a huge country park with a reservoir in it and there's always "New Age Travellers" and generally crusty people camping down there in motor homes and they scare me.

I really needed to smoke. I was going crazy. Now, I'm wide-awake anyway and I bet I can't sleep and will be late for work again.

I reckon my neighbour must be like that, he revs up his car at midnight to go somewhere and is back in 5 minutes usually - I can't think of any other reason than he's going to get smokes for him and his missus.
