Nomad vs. iPod...thoughts?

So I've been seeing these Creative Labs Nomad mp3 players lately, and while I know they're wanna-be iPods, they look like you get the same goods for less money. The 40mb Nomad is less than the 20mb iPod! The design is different, you don't get the trendy white earphones, and you can't say you have an iPod, but other than that...what's the big difference? I've done some homework on Amazon.com and a couple of other electronics online shops, and people seem to be pretty satisfied with the Nomad. Anyone have one, or played with one? I'm not a brand whore, unless I'm really taken with the quality of the brand in question, so if the wannabe product is just as good - hey, I'm there.

I don't know anything about the Nomad but I have heard rumours of satelite radio hooking up with apple. That would change everything and I love my ipod.

I had an Archos Jukebox and I thought it was great and I've heard nothing but good things about the Nomad so in my mind if money is and issue the off-brand is the way to go.

i don't have a preference when it comes to these things. i don't know anything abot the nomad but i know the dell digital jukebox is really good. i've also heard only good things about the rio mp3 player. i bought an ipod because my boyfriend (whom i live with) has an apple and i have a pc. we can both use the ipod but he wouldn't be able to use an mp3 player that is not from apple.

I prefer the iPod (I've owned several generations of the Nomad and honestly, I didn't like it as much).

i have the rio mp3 player and i use that at the gym...it's okay, but it doesn't hold a lot of music (mine doesn't, anyway). i don't think i'll give up my rio for the gym, but i'd love to have something with lots of memory for when i'm schlepping to work.

Yeah, lol, I replaced those damn earphones so fast. I donno how you can listen to music w/ them. Everyone walks around campus with the white earphones sticking out so we KNOW they've got an iPod - flaunters!

yeah - i'm pretty much faithful to those sony earphone things that wrap around your ears with the little clips. doesn't matter to me if the cord is white or not, big whoop.

though i will admit, my bf has an iPod and i do think it's awful purty and fun to play with. i guess my biggest concern is that the nomad doesn't have as much functionality, but it looks like it has all kinds of neeto little bells and whistles on it.

i hated the standard white plugs - those that come with the purchase - but i love the pod looking ones. they form fit to my ear and no chicago wind gets in the way. with the other pair, the wind would blow them right out of my ear. damn chicago and its windy ways...

me too. comfort

except when i'm at the gym, i use my little rio mp3 player cuz it's tiny and fits in my pocket and doesn't get in the way.

though i'd like to replace my discman with something that doesn't necessitate me having to carry around a cd wallet. that'd be awful sweet. nod

I'm a SONY whore, but I hate their players. I've been considering getting an iPod, but I think I'm going to wait to see if the next generations will have radios built in. I like the photo just for the color screen. I don't care about price, I never do if it's something I want. LOL

I was having a discussion about this last evening!!

What I do know is the iPod can store up to 900 songs on it. You can download from both PC and applemac. I've actually never come across a Nomad!! I'd be interested to find out more about the two. I've seen however some sleek lookin products on da market that don't have quite as much memory, but you can store up to 70 songs, it functions as a memory stick so you can keep any files you want on there, and an FM stereo function!! It is available at da fraction of the cost of an iPod...though those thingz look mad, and a friend at work has a sexy pink mini iPod, and although dat one has less memory, i have to say i keep lookin at it and wishing it was mine!!! lol

Interesting...

Ive been using the Nomad for 4 months when I work out. Their battery life sucks, but not having all the extra wires is cool..Got the new XM2GO installed in my car today cause i thought it would be kick ass for the gym, but you can't use it indoors with out an antenna, which is a pain in the ass. The only cool aspect is it has a 5 hour built in MP3 play where you can record 5 hours of XM and not have to use the antenna. neutral

I agree. I despise ear buds. I never used them with my iPod. I love the Sony Hi-Fi Studio headphones...they're kinda bulky, but the sound quality is amazing. smile

20MB is a typo, it's 20GB. 199 euro, which would be approx. $260.

Oh gosh I havent gotten an MP3 upgrade because I dont know what to get

Nomad or Ipod
Its driving me nuts. I like the nomads with the fm radio but I know the battery life would suck.
Something is keeping me from buying an ipod. I would have one by now but I know I could find something with better features for less money...so which one is it and what is it called ?
