Give it up for Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries - Another DVD series to suck up your hard earned cash

Pamela Sue Martin has come out of hiding and probably needs money or is planning on a comeback...just saying.

Following up on last Monday's announcement from Universal, we now have new details about The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries - Season 1 (release date 3/22/05, $39.98 SRP). At the time we didn't have the specs yet, but now we can pass on that this set of 2 double-sided DVDs has an 11 hour 40 minute running time, is in 4x3 full frame video, with sound in Englilsh 2.0 Dolby Stereo. French and Spanish subtitles are provided, and it is closed captioned for the hearing impaired. As we speculated, all 14 episodes from the first season - including the pilot - are going to be on this release.

Based on the immensely popular books, the series follows the multitalented super sleuths who can both investigate spooky mysteries as well as carry such tunes as "That's Rock and Roll' and "Da Doo Ron Ron'. That's because it stars 70's teen idols Shaun Cassidy (who sings those songs in the show and brought them to #3 and #1 on the music charts, respectively), Parker Stevenson and Pamela Sue Martin. It also featured huge guest stars, including the likes of Mark Harmon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Crane, Rick Nelson, Richard Kiel, Gordon Jump, Robert Englund, and Rosalind Chao.

A very cool bonus item is being included in this set: a free collectible poster of music and TV star Shaun Cassidy! How's THAT to wrench your timeline right back into the 70s?

Speaking of that decade, we have an early look here at the cover art for this release. Universal is quick to point out that this isn't necessarily the final version of the box, but unless there are some drastic changes, it obviously will be a reminder of the groovy era that this series aired in. Have a look!

I wouldn't buy it, but I would love to watch it. I vaguely remember it since I was probably under the age of 7 when it aired.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

I read the books when I was a kid. I still have them (though I didn't read them)

I think I saw like an episode (I recall a rhino charging a car ...Hardy Boys episode) and recall thinking they were cute or something. It was the theme song I recall the most...it was quite catchy, mysterious and haunting...brooding even.

I did make the association of Pamela and Dynasty.
