ok. i'm almost finished reading the book recommended by Lleena, 'Feeding Lolita From The Can' by Joe Smith.
i must say i didn't expect the protagonist to bail out on her at the end in the helicopter scene. i thought for sure he'd help her on with the parachute, or clasp her in his arms to get her to safety but instead he lets her take her chances with the terrorists? true, she shouldn't have put on so much weight. true, the parachute might not have even supported her, let alone him and her. but true love takes chances like that anyway, right? this sucker better have a happy ending, is all i can say

These things need to have a flow, but I think a structure of some kind would be an incentive to people.
Yah! If the discussion relates to given chapters it will make it easier to follow.

I can only take this book in small doses it makes me feel incredibly sad
The plight of the women and there dreams and desires being quashed makes me feel heavy and like missy it makes me feel so claustrophobic to think that the only time they are really individiuals is when indoors it's made me realise just how lucky i am to live in such a liberal place and have the opportunitys i have taken for granted all my life

These wonderfully talented women being denied the basic human right to be all they can be. My thoughts exactly but at the same time it feels like a bright light in the darkness, that the spirt of these women can still perserve, that even through the world they live in they are treated as second class citizens they still strive to better themselves and yes this class may seem a small act of defiance but it shows how strong they really are and how they have a inner strength no regime can truely destroy still heartbreaking though

The very of end of the chapter that centers around Henry James is really remarkable: when that radical fundamentalist student commits suicide for the reason, she suggests that the tentative peace between Iraq and Iran has left him with nothing to do? No reason to live. And he dies spewing the same rhetoric he spewed when he was alive. The portrait of this deluded youth, who represents everything that she hates about the Islamic government, is almost touching in a way. She really has her moments.

Who has started, finnished, and where are we all up to? I'm not sure, I think most people participating must have purchased it by now and maybe started reading. Might need to start another thread to clarify what stage everyone has reached and for discussion. .. [Edited 1/26/05 15:32pm]
