SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!

Over the past couple of weeks I have had really bad computer problems, resulting in me literally starting from scratch again with a new system, so that means I have virtually lost everything I had on here in the way of music files mainly!! Previously I had WinMX for searching and music downloading, but I was told that WinMX was a prime carrier of viruses and spam.

Anyway, can anyone recommend to me a good downloading programme?? I have no idea where 2 start in getting all my music back!! sad sad sad

Kazaa...try to find the "lite" version. otherwise you'll get a lotta crap and spyware etc.

I have had an absolute nightmare!! My D Drive broke down so I couldnt log on and it was murder trying 2 find a computer tech place open during the Christmas week, but I managed 2 get some help and this guy had 2 rip out my D drive and make my existing C Drive, the D drive and then put in a second hand C Drive, but this one was corrupted with a few viruses, which resulted in me having 2 start off completely afresh again!!

eek mad sad

so sorry. that's HORRIBLE. You should be really careful when DL stuff...as spyware and viruses can be downloaded with your Gwen Stefani tune. It's why I mentioned kazaa lite. it works but keeps that crap to a minimum. And get good virus protection. I found out last night it's only like 20 - 25 buck for a years worth of protection. That is SO worth it. Good luck with your new puter.

Why not just buy cd's instead of illegally downloading them!

1. Download KaZaa
2. From KaZaa download Partition Magic
3. Create at 3 partitions on your hard drive:
c:\ 3 gig root NTFS
d:\ 2 gig ghost FAT32
e:\ 2 gig page NTFS
f:\ data (the rest of your drive) NTFS

Note: Partition magic will allow U to do it visually
4. Move your page file (virtual memory) from c:\ to e:\
This will prevent your pagefile from sherdding your root partiion,
slowing down yoru system, and competing with system files.
5. Install all your programs and files to f:\
SO, if you reimage your system, you wont lose any data
6. download Norton Ghost
ghost your c:\ partition to an .gho file on d:\ once you've installed
the programs you KNOW will not change in versions that often.

The process of setting all this up takes between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on what you put into it, but when shit hits the fan, you can restore your life in less than a half hour.

I blow my PC away about every month becuase I fool with it so much, and it no longer kills me to get back tot he point where I need to be.

one word.....

BACKUP!!!!!

Let this serve as a lesson - make backups of data you cant afford to lose!
Use some of the many hours you spend in front of the PC to back your data up
- you can use a myriad of methods such as CD-R / RW DVD-R /RW xdrive / spare hard drives etc etc but make sure you back it up.
Its not a question of "if" your hardware will fail - its "WHEN" If data is so precious that you can't afford to lose it - then back
it up!!!

Yeah it's more fun to see what rubbish she posts than to actually read about what Prince is doing these days.
