Your First Car! What was the first car that you ever owned? I bought my first car in 1998. It was a 1992 Ford Tempo. I bought it used. It got over 150,000 miles until it died on the freeway. It costantly leaked oil, had a shattered side window, and had a broken axle. Yep, this car was definitly a candidate for MTV's Pimp My Ride! Heres a picture of a 1992 Ford Tempo.

My first car was a big old boat of a Buick. Royal blue. And after the first few months, it didn't go in reverse. But I still drove it around anyway. I'd have to leave for school very early so I could get into a parking spot that I could get out of without having to back up. |

For a period, the breaks were so bad on my Tempo that I was reduced to only using side streets. I'd pump the breaks about 100 yards before the stopsign. I know, I know. I shouldnt have been driving a car this raggedy. But I couldnt pick up honeys on a bike could I?

1974 Plymouth Duster, just like this one in the picture except mine was dark green, that I got when I was 17.
It was basically a real piece of - AM radio only until my dad put in a stereo system/tape deck for me, no air conditioning, broken gas gauge for awhile (ran out of gas on the road countless times because I wasn't good about keeping track of when I'd filled up and how many miles I could drive before needing to fill up again because that was MATH and well..math, fuggitaboutit!), and dark vinyl seats that would burn the skin off the back of your legs in the summer if the car had been out in the sun too long. My car, for a time, also had pepto-bismol pink big fuzzy dice that I'd won at the fair and thought looked SOOOOO COOOOOL hanging from my rearview mirror! I have great memories of that old piece of , though.

I had a 1985 Chevy Camaro in '87 for my birthday. I had to make the payments though.

Has anyone just by chance seen their first car again after they'd sold it?
Years and years after I sold my Duster, one day I saw it sitting in a parking lot on the outskirts of my town, even more rusted out and banged up than ever. At first I wasn't sure it was actually MY old car so I drove around it and saw the Green Bay Packers bumper sticker that was there when I'd gotten my car (and that I couldn't ever get scraped off..) which positively identified it as being my old Duster. Later I told my dad about having seen my Duster and he said he knew about it being there and that some guy was living out of it in that old parking lot. It was kinda depressing. Ahh, memories.

my first car was an 84 Buick Regal. It was comfortable as hell, not a bad car actually.
This is the closest pic I could find

My first car was a 1980 Dodge Omni that was fire engine red with black, red and white plaid bucket seats. The car had rack and pinion steering, and no air conditioning or power locks, windows, nothing. The only thing it did have was a sunroof which was nice for popping open when the weather was nice. I also bought some louvers to put on the hatchback window, which made it look even more sporty.
I found a pic, but my car was not orange and black like this one, it was fire engine red. I loved that car, and I was sad when I sold it. Actually, now that I look at this picture, this car is a Plymouth TC3, but the two cars were very similar in body style and price. [Edited 1/9/05 12:15pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Why in God's name would you be trying to peel off a Packers bumper sticker? If anything you should have added additional Packer stickers

Aren't there smaller cars in the US?
How can they let teenagers drive such huge cars? I find it dangerous I proudly drove a Seat 127 (4 cars ago and I still drive small cars).

Unless we are talking SUV's which are tall and can roll I dare say the safest cars in the world are the big old boats. Your front end and trunk are so big you have a lot of built in protection.
