It died a little while ago. I always put my passed hamsters in the garbage. I saw it's side rise up twice, but I was watching it for awhile and it didn't move. I don't want to throw it away and it comes back to life, unless it was releasing gas or something. Not long ago it was happily running on its wheel and making a lot of noise. I hope it didn't starve to death, i'm sure I fed her enough food. I feel so guilty.

I'm so scared, she's breathing again, but hard. She looks dead, but shes taking very deep breaths, her body is going in and out.

I tried putting a bottle of water by her mouth, but what good is that. Her head didn't move. It looks like her body is dead and someone is pumping air into it.

Sounds like she could just be struggling-you're doing good it sounds like, whatever happens.

Is there a family member you could call too for advice?

Would the vet be open or something?

Do you have Cedar chips for its fodder?

The salespeople at PETCO told me that Cedar chips (though they mask the hamster smell better than regular fodder) can cause respiratory reactions in Hamsters, sometimes resulting in death.

So, if your cage has Cedar chips in it, then it's probably suffocating.

If you still can...try taking it out of the cage and leave it in a shoebox or something...away from the cedar.

And hey, don't beat yourself up over the cedar thing, ok? It could have been a lot of different problems, and it's really the fault of the pet stores who keep selling the damn things (which, for the record, some critters don't seem to have problems with).

Damn! I'm sorry to hear that...I was rooting for the lil' guy.

I really wanted a hamster when I was a kid...til the guy at the store said that their average life span is all of four years. Heck no! I need an animal that's going to live a LONG time...like a turtle or something!

Awww Sorry to hear about your hamster.
You must be careful though to make sure they are actually dead. I had a hamster once whom I thought had died, was very cold and everything and would not move, but he was still breathing just a little. We put him on the radiator in a towel and rubbed him, and he was fine I think it's hibernation.

im so sorry for you i know that is a terrible thing to watch... i had a squirrel one time that i had nursed back to health.. he was doing great, had GEORGE for about a month, he was the cutest thing on earth.. but, one day he just passed, almost exactly the same way you discribed its a horrible feeling not to be able to help such a tiny creature....oh, and that bird i tried to save that feel out of his nest and into a puddle of water.. that was awful too.... again, im sorry sweetie

I threw her away the next day, I hope it died and it wasn't alive when I threw it away, it's legs and arms were crossed.
