I haven't been home for a couple of days, but I can tell you what's usually there:

dirty dishes
microwave
toaster
canisters with white flour, whole wheat flour, pasta, sugar, and two kinds of cereal
fruit basket with overripe fruit (I'm more of a veggie person, really)
telephone
answering machine
GLBA (Gay and Lez Business Association) telephone book
bread box
cutting board
timer
salt shaker
pepper mill
electric tea kettle

we don't really have any counters in our kitchen proper (we have a walk-in pantry)

but most of the flat surfaces in our kitchen are currently covered with bottles of liquor left over from New Years. I went a little crazy stocking-up for that night redface
