On Thursday I went out and did something I've wanted to for a while: I got both my nipples pierced. 12 g horizontal barbells.

The guy who did them was really nice and professional about it. As I'd done with both my tattoos, I took a friend with me. She sat quietly in the corner while I laid down in the chair topless (cold chair! cold room!) and the piercer, Chris, prepped the equipment.

And lemme say -OUCH!

For some reason, the left nip hurt way more than the right one. Probably because Chris pierced the right one first, so the second time I was bracing for it.

They're still a little sore, but they appear to be healing nicely and I'm happy with them.

No tattoos, no body piercings (except 3 on left ear and 1 on the right that are already closed up again since I took earring off 13 years ago).

I see where you're coming from. I thought on this a LONG time before getting it done. Weighed the pros and cons and decided to go with it anyway.

I eventually decided on barbells instead of hoops because they heal quicker and are less likely to catch on things.

Almost everybody finds that the second one hurts more than the first. For me, I think it's because I put a lot of energy into being relaxed and in a good headspace for the first one, and then that was blown before the second one. If I had taken an hour or two (or a day or two) in between it probably would have been better.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd actually DO it that way, as I'd rather just buck up, deal with the pain of the second one, and have it over with.

Mine rejected. I need to have them redone. Looking forward to it.

I should switch my hoop to a barbell.

I think I need to use different jewelry; I used circular barbells, and I think they are just too heavy and mobile. I'll use straight ones when I repierce. But more importantly, I think I need to be good about keeping peoples mouths off of them until they are totally and completely healed this time.

I'm glad I got them both done at the same time too. Knowing how much it hurt, I'd probably have chickened out on the left one.
