Why are some men intimidated by tall women?

I've always wondered this...I'm only 5'9-1/2" (I'm sure my taller sisters have it much worse!) and I've come into contact with some guys who just can't handle it and even resort to name-calling, etc. Why is this?

Heavenly

First of all, 5'9-1/2 is not THAT tall. I'm only an inch shorter.

Second, It's mostly about ego. Men like to feel bigger and stronger. Want to feel needed for their size and strength.

How many women like to date shorter men? or skinnier men?

That's really what it boils down to. If they're going to have something "big" in their life, it's gotta be something they can control - like a goddamn Hummer.

I've dated a woman who was 6'0 (I'm 5'10). Height really doesn't mean anything to me.

EXACTLY! Don't get me wrong...I've dated plenty of men shorter than I and they were wonderful and loved the fact that I'm tall...but, it seems the majority have a hang-up about it.

True, though it all depends on where you live.

Hmmm, length/size doesn't say much about strength though and definitely not when you're comparing men to women.

cuntroversial

i don't think it has anythign to do with height unless it's at a freakish level... men like supermodels right? well supermodels HAVE to be at least 5'9" , so 5'9 1/2 isn't really that tall....though i wouldn't mind if that were my height. the AVERAGE woman is only 5'4 and *I* get called short when i'm 5'6 1/2" wtf?

Yeah, men like supermodels but they're never with them...so they don't really see how tall they actually are.

i used to think i'd liek to be really short, or a few inchese taller. short short women can be rather cute, and of course tall ones have that...graceful quality i guess.

I think U hit the nail on the head. My wife is taller than the avg. and she deals it with at work all the time from some of the more egotistical men...I think it kills them even worse that she's so sharp and knows what she's doing...By the way this is the third year out of four that she's been named civilian of the year on my Air Force Base here in Hawaii~ She's the greatest!!! Aloha~
