2005 - Time for some changes

It's the start of a new year, and everyone makes resolutions, but these don't usually involve our personality and behaviour in relation to other people. Giving up smoking or going to gym are both worthwhile resolutions, but let's be more honest than that. In the absence of any obvious skills or talents, I've always tried just to be a good person. As such, with this new year I've been giving a lot of thought to how I can change myself to be better to the people around me.

It's simple. List a few things you want to change about yourself, particularly in relation to other people. Be absolutely honest or there's little point. You may learn something from actually typing things out and seeing it in front of you. I'll start.

- I don't listen to my wife and nearly always make decisions for us by myself.

- I can be aloof and sometimes belittle people for my own amusement.

- I've become too dependent on my wife to do things, partly through shyness, but need to come out of my shell a little more, take responsibility and interact with people more.

i have a very short fuse. My mother in particular sparks it off...if only because she's motherly. Having not lived with or depended on my parents for almsot 10 years, I take offense to it and get stressed out. I shouldn't get so stressed out, she's only doing her job.

I also get impatient and kind of selfish where my mother and stepfather are concerned...they used to take my daughter for an hour or two here and there, but circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to except on weekends, which they never do. Being in the process of constructing a new home for them to move into on my property of no cost to them, I think I have some sense of entitlement to more help/time from them. What I often forget is that the weekends, when they ARE able to assist in childcare, are also their only time to do the things THEY want and need to do together. Though I have no other alternative, I know I need to just "suck it up" and be more understanding of how they choose to spend their time.

Also relating to them, I get very annoyed/stressed when they show up unannounced, particularly when my mother is included. After having had recent foot surgery she needs a large pathway to a decent chair when she gets here. I get stressed out because I have not yet gotten to tidying that part of the house when they show up and have to rush around to make it maneuverable. It is my fault for procrastinating my chores, not theirs for stopping by.

I also wish to spend more time on my daughter's education and play. I, like most, too often get caught up in my own agenda and may leave her hanging a little longer than I could. A beautiful mind like she has should have every opportunity available to grow and develop; they say play is a child's work, and a child's work is to learn every new thing they can discover.

If I'm impatient or annoyed with the rest of y'all bastards of this Earth, tough shit. wink

I do pledge to TRY not to get involved in too many "wars" in my time here at the org...but I can't guarantee anything demon

* I'd like to be a little more outgoing and not as shy in some situations.
* I need to stay more connected with my friends...I can be really bad about calling people back.

Reincarnate

I'd like to practice more humility and patience.

I'm quite opinionated and tend to get intolerant sometimes. I have also always felt I was special in some way - as I get older I realise this is ego and not at all where I want to be at this stage in my life.

I need to stay away from people who are bad for me.

I should give up smoking. I can't justify the expense.

I need to go and see my Grandmother more. She's 87 and she won't be around forever.

I should be more patient with my friends and relatives' children. I usually leave the room if they come anywhere near me.

I need to put the past to bed and cut a few ties.

I should try to create as much as I consume. I need to paint or take photos or write songs or stories or something.
