I just got my DVD burner - what software do I need? Can anyone let me know what software they would recommend to copy DVDs (do I need a ripper? A decrypter?) - I'm really new at this....

I think there's a program called DVD Shrink that enables you to copy DVDs.
Either that. or Nero and Easy CD Creator (which now I think has a different name)

You need DVD Shrink to copy retail discs - it compresses them so they will fit on a normal DVDr. Also removes/cracks the encryption.
DVD Decrypter is a great ripper/cracker, but doesn't shrink. Both freeware. You also need a burning application for discs that you shrink, or software to turn the files into an image (ISO - IMG Tools classic is a good program) ) that DVD DEcrypter can burn. This site has links and information for everything to do with DVD copying. http://www.videohelp.com/tools All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

So I successfully burned a disc, but I have a problem....The disc doesn't play on my stand-alone DVD player, but it does play on a computer DVD player...I read that this might have something to do with the media I used - should I be able to create discs that play on my stand alone if I use different media? (I used Verbatim 4x discs)...

Could be a number of things. 1. WHat format can your player recognise? There are 2 formats, DVD+r and DVD-r. -r is slightly more compatible. Many players play both, however some manufacturers favour one over the other. Check that your player is capable of playing the format you used. http://www.videohelp.com/...phabetical 2. Could actually be themedia. Check here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia to see if your media is compatible with your player.
