There have been a lot of B & E's around my neighbourhood lately involving the rental complex(s) I live in. They break in by sliding these flimsy aluminum kitchen windows up and out and get in via the window. I was considering just having 2 screws put in at the top. But today decided to get bars, that would deter the pricks. They tried getting in my next door neighbours, but failed and did come back again and tried and failed. I know one person who got cleaned out I have too much to lose, my computer, t.v., VCR, DVD's, CD's, etc. Waiting for a quote for my two kitchen windows. Roughly about $150.00/window. But hell, for peace of mind I am going to have window bars installed (ones with padlock).

And to boot they are also hitting the mail boxes and getting pensioner cheques, etc., another source of theft identity. I went out and bought a security mailbox. This way when the mailman/woman delivers my mail they put it in a slit under the opened lid. It has a key to open the slit/cover so I can access my mail.

My neighbourhood is getting really bad. Why don't these pricks hit the nicer homes in the area, you'd think.....

So since the past 2 nights me and my phone have been sleeping together and I am not getting much sleep.

Maybe you can have one of those motion-controlled lights installed outside, so the lights switch on when someone comes near your kitchen. Nice strong lamps.
That sort of attention ususally deters.

Those motion lamps would be a great idea, will look into that. My back gate faces onto an alley.

That sucks. no matter what you add - motion controlled lights, locks or whatever, still get the bars. it's the only thing that would really make them move to another window which might be easier to break into.

Having the bars installed this afternoon. At least after the Xmas holidays are over and I return to work.... I will feel more comfortable.

A couple of things that work too:

Place a pair of size 13 dirty work boots outside your door (makes them think a man also lives there). Get a security sticker (like ADT) and stick it to your door. And for around 50 bucks you can have a security light placed at your entry way.

Place 2 of those guards like in the beginning of the video Gett Off, by every door and window.
