It seems like it's kinda "wrong", but I don't know enough about it...are these females willing participants (ie, they'd do anything to get out of their country so they marry) or are they being "sold" into marriage?

I think it's a little bit of both perhaps. Maybe some of them want out of their country, whereas others don't have a choice. I've never really thought about it much actually... lol

I dont think they are being sold into marriage, some are probably woman that want out of their country, and others are ones that are seeking a type of refuge from something. I havent done any research into it, but my exes cousin married one and they are very happy, just had their first kid, and actually truely seem to love each other shrug

You order them and when they come through the post, you have to take them out of their box and blow air into them. nod

Do people do it? Yes.

Is it shady? It can be. Be careful. Some men want mail order brides who are subserviant while others figure that they cannot find someone in their country to love so they go off to another country to find someone.

Does it work out?? Yes and no.

Some women use this means as a way to get a better life or to be able to get into another country. Then sometimes they get divorced upon landing in that country. That's why most countries have red tape for you to prove the the marriage/relationship is legitimate.

I saw a t.v. show where a man from the US went to Russia to find a bride. He never searched the whole of his country first before venturing beyond. They did get married in the US. The relationship never worked out. She ended up going back to Russia. Reasons being the language barrier, the lonliness, the culture shock, and the women complain of being abused by their American spouses.

Oh - I never even noticed. Maybe it inflates separately after a little slap and tickle.

Here's a nice photo album of an American going to the Eastern Bloc to find himself a bride. It's safe for work but all very icky.

Case

In 1994, when I was living in Idaho with a former friend, we got the Cherry Blossoms catalog, which is filled with Russian mail-order-brides. We even went as far as to fill out the order form for the address of five women (I remember the girl I REALLY liked was named Irina. She was interested in 'literature, cinema and pop music.')

I never sent it in, although my roommate wanted to. What can I say? There were NO WOMEN IN IDAHO!!!!!

I do believe that the guy's intentions were honourable but he's just so slimy and weird.

Good idea. Hell, I'm sure that tater would have had more personality than half of the women I was dating around that time.
