Jerry Orbach is dead RIP ...
he was the reason I loved Law and Order...and ok...who can forget him as Mr. HOuseman in Dirty Dancing? 'Law & Order' Star Jerry Orbach Dies 8 minutes ago Entertainment - AP NEW YORK - "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at 69, a representative of the show said Wednesday. Orbach died Tuesday night in Manhattan after several weeks of treatment, Audrey Davis of the public relations agency Lippin Group said. When his illness was diagnosed, he had begun production on NBC's upcoming spinoff "Law & Order: Trial By Jury," after 12 seasons playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in the original series. His return to the new show had been expected early next year. On Broadway, the Bronx-born Orbach starred in hit musicals including "Carnival," "Promises, Promises" (for which he won a Tony Award), "Chicago" and "42nd Street." Among his film appearances were roles in "Dirty Dancing," "Prince of the City" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors." [Edited 12/29/04 7:46am] Let the rain come down...17 days....

It's very dissapointing news as a fan the man and of the series. I'm sure he was a great man. I hope that his death is acknowledged when his longtime partner, Jesse L, Martin, comes back next season. It would make no sense for Dennis Farina and the guy from the Sporanos who is coming on for a few weeks to bring it up. I wonder what this means for the series. I read his story on the net and had not idea she had done so much Broadway, or was the Candlestick! He must have been some actor!

The dream team for "Law and Order" was Orbach and Martin. That's when I got into the show. Farina is a good actor but just isn't the chracter that Briscoe was. You can't recreate that.
