the earthquake and the media

is it really necessary to see dead bodies floating in the waters or in make shift morgues. or woman clutching the dead bodies of their deiad child.
i find it distasteful and tragic.
do we need to see this to feel their pain?

i prefer the interviews.....first hand experirnece. let our minds fill in the gaps.
please.

another point....i remember the big earthquake that happend in india a few years back. obliterated whole towns and villages. not obvious tourst areas..so no real media presence.
story was out of the news in a matter of days.

makes me feel sad.

Anxiety

this is why i prefer to get my news either from NPR or from fairly credible print media. network news, CNN, foxnews and the like all tend to disgust me more than inform me. i guess this makes me some kind of snooty "cultural elitist", but to hell with it - just tell me what's going on and leave the dramatics to hollywood.

If there are quick easy ratings or exploitation to be made from a tragedy, sadly they'll do it-it's more soundbite over story.

Some while back, when I was highly sensitive, I decided to cut back on the intake of "news". All you get fed are images that need to "speak volumes", which meant I had to look at things I did not want to see.

So I searched for different ways of gathering news. CeeFax was a great one. I do not know what it is called overseas, but in the UK and in The Netherlands you can press this button on your tv and a screen imposes on your screen. You tap in numbers that correspond to pages, mostly news here in Holland.

In Holland they give you the telex news. Just the facts. That is way better for me and is still my main way of gathering news.

If you are in the UK... if you are abroad, it gives you a page that says; "You sad MF! We went digital and FUCK you!"

It was a sad day I had to go without my CeeFax. But now I got it back!

Long live internet!
