I've Phoned Into Work, Sick

...and I feel really guilty, but I really am ill.

I felt fine when I woke up. Went to the loo, then had a shower. Coffee, vitamin pill, cigarette... Got dressed, walked up the street towards the bus stop and then had an overwhelming urge to go to the toilet.

So I got back home, went to the toilet, felt better, splashed some water on my face and set back off again...

Then I didn't even get as far as the time before. I had to jog back home again. Back on the toilet, felt a bit icky but relieved...

Then I drank a glass of iced-water and I had to go again...

So I phoned my boss and as I was waiting for him to answer the phone, I could hear my tummy gurgling again. I told him that I was having "toilet trouble" and that hopefully I'd be in later.

I had another shower because I felt a bit horrible but then went to the toilet again... This time it was bad. I actually took a look down below - it looked like sick.

I'm sat in my dressing gown, feeling a bit dizzy and smelly, with a hot-water bottle on my tummy. I don't know if I should go into work. I'm unsure if my boss believes I'm ill but I don't wan t to drag myself into work just to prove a point.

I've gone to the loo five times in 90 minutes which surely isn't normal. I don't want to be sat on the bus and really wanting to go. What should I do? I feel like shit.

Okay. Now my head feels like it's being squeezed.

I'm going back to bed for an hour.

See you all later.

Sit your sick ass in the house. Even if you want to go in the bad part is you may get your co-workers sick and they may give it back to you. Take the phone with you into the bathroom when you call your boss. There is no way you can fake uncontrollable bowels or farting noises. Just listening to a person throw up is enough for me! Don't worry. If you are as loyal as you sound I am sure your boss won't hold it against you. It is those folks who screw up royally and often are the ones who can't call in sick and sound believeable. Ask one of your co-workers to bring you your work at home if it is that serious for you to complete an assignment. Better yet as your boss to swing by with it. Bet money he tells you too finish when you come back in. Rest. Stressing yourself out will only make it harder for you to recover. sick hug

The thing is, why are u taking vitamin pills and smoking at the same time?????shocked shocked

The nicotine and tar is undoing all that the vitamin pill is trying 2 do which is making u healthy, so u are not getting anywhere!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

Well, in my mind, they're cancelling each other out.

Anyway. I've woken up about twenty minutes ago and although my tummy isn't churning now, my head feels a bit fuzzy and my mouth tastes watery. I could probably get ready for work and go in now but I'm not risking it.

yes stay home and get better, the more you push yourself to go to work the longer you will feel bad, and you risk getting everyone at work ill too, which doesnt make you an office favorite.

lay down if you dont feel better go to the doctor.

they may be mad for a second but what can you do if you are sick, if they dont understand people get sick then that isnt a place you should be working

hug I hope you feel better

Aw, thanks for that. I'll probably feel a bit better right after I take another shower in a minute's time.

I'm hungry but I'd better not eat. I think I should be safe with water.

Thanks for all the kind words.

I haven't "been to the toilet" again since this morning, so whatever it was seems to have passed. Oddly though my eyes are killing me. Not stinging (as they would be if I were tired) but actually aching as if I've used them too much. I can't explain it.

Other than having achey eyes, I'm fine now. smile

BJ, let me tell ya a story...I was in a position not long ago where I
literally couldn't call in sick. I was part of management, and it was
an unwritten rule that you didn't screw over another part of management
by having them inconvenienced to cover your ass.
I was "honored" to be chosen as part of a team that grand opened a store.
The week before grand opening, I got a bad case of the stomach flu, but
I kept going into work...feeling warm, inhaling the paint fumes...I felt
more terrible everyday. Till finally I hit the wall...I was driving home
and almost passed out while driving. That night I went to the emergency
room and was placed on IV fluids. The whole time I was thinking about work.
How are they going to cover me? All my bosses will be there!!!

Lessoned learned: Never place work over your health...after that night, it took me another 4 full days to feel well enough to go back to work. I couldn't hold anything down, so I wasn't eating much...I think I lost 10 lbs that week.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
