"Surviving Christmas" already on DVD! Only 2 months after theather release!

I'm not posting this as a fan of the movie or someone excited about it. I just find this really interesting. I've noticed taht bombs or not, movies tend to go on video/dvd as fast as possible (usually, five to six months after it's release), Disney used to hold out their movies a little longer when they were events, ("Monsters, Inc" came out on video about a year but that was the last one I noticed like that). With holiday movies, they tend to come out on video a year or so after their release....because what is the point of releasing a Christmas movie in the middle of the summer or end of spring. This happened with "Elf" and "The Grinch", both of which I'm sure were helped by this. I remember working at Meijer when "The Grinch" came out and they were stocked all over, with many copies available in the aisles, along with those little reminder items like screwdrivers, chapsticks, toothbrushes, etc. It seemed like almost everyone bought at least one copy. I've never seen a piece of media sell like that when I was in the store before.

So this brings me to the stinker "Surviving Christmas". This movie is such a lost cause, I was wondering if they would bother to wait a year and get everyone in the mood for it next year. I guess not since they are pushing it (although their probably not doing much pushing, just stocking it) on DVD only a few days before Chirstmas. Has anyone ever seen a turnaround from theather to DVD for a major movie like this before? I know with some indies that they will be in theathers a few weeks before their release. But this is a movie starring Ben Affleck and James Gandolfini (who dispite "The Sparanos", can't get into a good/hit movie to save his life!). I think it's actually a good strategy. It's worth a try to make some money back. People might be desperate to watch anything holiday releated and pick it up, not knowing what it is. Any thoughts on this? Is this the fastest a movie has ever been put out on video after eating it at the box office? I know that now of days, the theather to video turnaround is quick for hits and misses. If anything, I don't think that companies that lost money on the theatactrical release are eager to shove the video the public...the plan is to make the money back, so they might take their time and some care with releasing it on a new format, which might take time.
