I've seen The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Extended Edition)

...and it's so good it's untrue!

as with the other extended editions, this one is dotted with extra scenes and
extended versions of existing scenes. Most of the new additions are there to
just add depth to the characters, but in my opinion they all add up to a much
more cohesive and clearer plotline. While there's nothing new that's 'vital' to
the overall plot of the film, there's many additions which reinforce certain
character's motivations (particularly with regard to Aragorn and Denethor).

I don't wanna spoil it too much, but it definitely delivers all the promised
re-instigated scenes and more. There's even the odd suprise that I wasn't
expecting. Highlights for me were definitely the Mouth of Sauron and the
extra scenes with the Witch King. There's also some great additional Gollum
parts as well (particularly right near the end). I haven't watched any of the
extras yet, but it certainly looks even more packed with features than the
last two extended editions.

The only downside is that it's now all over.

oh, and of course the 'Voice of Saruman' scene near the beginning was well
worth the wait (I still think they should've kept that in for the theatrical
release).

I loved the Mouth of Sauron scene, very well done! It strays from the events in
the book quite 'dramatically' (don't wanna spoil it, as I was quite taken aback
when I saw it), but it works really well!

I'm so glad that we get to see Saruman! I didn't think it was right that his scenes were cut.

I've now watched some of the 'making of' features. I never released how
pressurised the making of this movie was! They really were working day & night
on it frantically trying to get it finished before the deadline (which they
only just managed by the skin of their teeth). They were trying to score the
movie and do the sound effects before most of the effects had been finished,
and it's just astounding that the sheer volume of effects shots were even half
finished in the time they had to do it, let alone up to the standard that they
were. They really did achieve the impossible with this movie!

I think the additions to this film made it a far better movie.I was slightly disappointed in the 3rd movie as it was released in theaters because,by that time, I knew there would be an extended version and that it probably be improved by the additional scenes , just as the first 2 were.In spite of it's Oscars, I was reserving judgement of the final film until I could see this extended cut.I still think the ending is a bit drawn out ... but they explain in the commentary that they wanted to be true to the novel's ending and felt that the lengthy farewell scenes were neccessary....

The extended versions tell a more complete story and offer a lot more devolpment of the characters , their motivations, and their relationships to each other...

These sets are incredibly loaded with hours of behind the scenes features and commentaries...

martini Here's to Peter Jackson and his crew for doing it right....
