Why DO they crop the ears?

And I'm a mut too (Part French Part Israeli), and I say woot! for muts!

The line breeders give is that for dogs historically used for certain purposes (eg. hunting), ears and tails were snipped to prevent injury to those body parts.

These days, it's done for aesthetic reasons. And I've seen these procedures and the healing process. It ain't pretty. Should probably be illegal.

Plus, Dobbies are so much CUTER with their ears intact! smile

I miss having pets sad

As a kid I had dogs, cats, hamsters, a snake, parrots, fish, bunnies and rabbits.
Now all I have at home are spiders boxed

I'm so wishing that I could get my own place as fast as possible in the US, so I could get a pet again. pray

My daughter wants a dog and really it's like you have another member of the family to feed. And it costs for immunizations, sterilization, and if that dog gets sick (and it will) the vet bills are expensive. You wanna buy a puppy and it is like 15 to 16 years of your life to look after this huge responsibility.

I would love to get a dog for my daughter, but I cannot afford another mouth to feed in my home when I have 3 kids to look after. It's not in my budget.

you know .... on a side note ... Teach (and all others on this conversation ... ) ... not to get off topic too much ... but i never realized ... about 10-12 yrs ago ... when i was researching the german shepherd purchase ---- I never realized how many people are opposed to buying 100% breed dogs !!! ... my sis in law gave me a speech about "i dont believe in buying dogs that are like that ... when there are humane society dogs , etc ... " ... i was like eek eek eek ... almost like i was being called a racist because i was buying a german shepherd full-bred dog ... and not a pound mixed bred dog ...

not that that aint noble or anything ... and i have had mixed bred dogs that are great ... wink

nowadays, there are plenty of purebred dogs in shelters and rescue organizations here in the States.

Well, it's good that you recognize that. Lots of people just get them anyway.

That's a major reason that I've not gotten a dog myself. They can be very, very expensive.
