So shall I get a dobermann puppy or not?

So my best friend Jen and her family have taken a litter off of their female Dobie Brinka, and they want me to have one of the females called Amber. She's black and tan, one of the bigger puppies in the litter. She's apparently calm and mentally stable, and I'd want to do IPO (kinda like schützhund) and obedience work with her. Since Uzie is dreadfully useless working with this tempts me a great deal, but I need to consider very carefully. So what do you say people, puppy Amber or not? hmmm

This is her and her family, it's impossible to single her out here but she's one of the black ones.

Dogs are far too much of a responsibility for someone like me. My saltwater fish tank is the extent of my pets. But, if you have the time and think it'll make you happy, then get it teach! wink

Will you come walk her in the middle of the night, or wipe it up if she makes a booboo on the floor? biggrin

No. I've got 2 of my own to look after. One is a 9 year old bassett I just adopted. He's been an outdoor dog his entire life. We've had a few messes of our own.

I know, but all costs get doubled - insurance, vet costs, food (even though I get that from work, 30 lbs free every month and everything else on half price), daycare costs... it'll take some planning, and some talk with potential dogsitters nod

Guess which way I'm leaning? I'm sooooo sold on this one, gonna go see her in the flesh Tuesday or Wednesday. disbelief @ myself biggrin

Thanks! How old's your german? If it's not too old you can always start on the schützhund, you really need to have the obedience nailed first though nod

Yes, but it's so worth it. Dogs are almost always happier in pairs.

Then start reading up on schützhund now and check if there's somebody holding trainings in our area, I'm sure there is. If you can't find any, just call the nearest K9 unit, they'll know.
Male and female works if one or both are neutered, otherwise it's a bitch.
Yeah I have one now, a 2,5 yo Malinois female. I think they'd get along fine, she's in heat right now so she might be a bit rough on the pup for a couple weeks but nothing overly aggressive.
