I Just Got My Property Tax Bill in the Mail Today.....

I can't friggin believe how much it's gone up (from $1,276.20 to $1,407.62). omfg mad Mind you, that would not be bad if I were living in a house, BUT I live on an apartment style condo. I have a backyard, BUT it's not really my own, it's a "common area", so that means anybody can use it anytime they want to. I tell ya, I hope to God that I can get a job before my property taxes are due. Last year, even though I was working, I was not making all that much, so I wound up taking the money out of my savings to pay the tax bill (which I hate doing). This bit of bad news comes at the same time as learning last month that my monthly maintenance fee is going up to $169.20 per month. omfg pissed When I told my mom, she said, "That's a ripoff!" I was like, "I know, but what can I do? I live there, so I HAVE to pay it."

I swear, living here is a big money pit, but unfortunately, I'm not in the financial position right now to buy a house, or I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't like it that people on a board of a condo association dictate how MY money is being spent. Several years ago, I was assessed (in ADDITION to my monthly maintenance fee) $1,500 because the condo association wanted to upgrade this place. New doors, gutters, and siding was put on, and the place looks better. Hopefully, that will bring the value of this place up, so when I DO decide to sell my condo, I will get a decent amount for it.

I know of someone who had a cousin who owned a place here, and she was having a DEVIL of a time finding a buyer because the maintenance fee was so damn high. I don't blame people, who wants to spend that kind of money each and every month, and the so called "property management company" still does NOT do what they're supposed to do? The ONLY positive thing about this place is that it is paid off (although it was dirt cheap when I bought it, that's why I settled here). If I knew then what I know now about this place, I NEVER would have bought here. I probably would have lived at home a few more years, continued to save money, and then bought a house. But it's too late now, guess I just have to suck it up and take it for awhile until I can afford to buy a house.

I wouldn't share this kind of information with the org. To me that's something very personal.

Just trying to help you out. wink

hah!

No, really, what you should do is pay exactly one tenth of the bill. If you're lucky they will never notice, in the worst case you buy yourself some time and can still play dead innocent when they confront you ("oh, did i forget a number"?).

I don't want to do that, since it will fuck up my credit rating.

It beats not paying the bills at all.

No old ladies to rob in one of the other apartments?

lol No, not really. All of the old ladies who live here are poor, like me. Which makes sense, because why would ANYBODY who had money buy a place here?
