Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Special Extended Edition

This set is fantastic. The extented edition makes the movie even better. Peter Jackson did a great job. I know it sounds stupid, but after watching the Movie, I want to be a filmaker.

What was your favorite scene in the movie?

It's ok.

It lacks the depth of Sam Firstenberg's greatest films though.
The problem with Rings is that it just doesn't speak to our generation.
Firstenberg's material is always spot on.

Jackson really needs to take notes from him.

so does it warrant a FOUR disc set? i still haven't seen this one, and i'm wondering if i need to slog through four discs of hobbits, or if there's just one damn disc i can look at so i can finally get through all this. i like these movies, but for my pointy little brain, a little bit of tolkien can go a long, long, LONG way.

yes, it does warrant 4 disc set. I find the extras very interesting. Not only is it about making the movies, but it is about the relationships that the cast had developed over the years. If you enjoyed the movies -- get the set.

The Extended Edition is LOOOOONNNNGGGG. I like it though. nod

They cut out quite a lot of scenes involving Merry and Pippin, didn't they?

Favourite scene: near the end when Frodo wakes up and the whole gang's there, giggling away at some mad in-joke. biggrin

Favourite line: Aragorn: "My friends...you bow to no one."
"A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I watched it last weekend. thumbs up!

Favorite scene: the shot of Gollum dancing after finally getting the ring back inside Mount Doom and Frodo starts to charge him. Visually, it's just a great shot that gives me chills each time I've seen it.

It is wonderful movie, it makes the whole story so great. Even though I have the story quite different in my mind.

My favourite scene (well, one of them) is the one where Éomer finds Éowyn from the battlefield and takes her in his arms and cries like a baby holding her, so touching *snif*.

If you just like the movies, I'd say settle with the one-disc version. I like this last one best, but even still it was far too long for me. One hour's worth of endings! Add 40 extra minutes on to that and it's over 4 hours. A lot of it extra character development - not something you need with a series that is already 9 hours plus.
