I was baking X-Mas cookies and it hit me that my favorite holiday cookies don't get sold here. Maurice Lenell Cookies are Chicago Based (I had no idea) and make these wonderful Holiday Jingles and Almond Cresent Cookies. They are also famous for thier Pinwheel Cookie and SOme sort of Star cookie with a cherry in it.





What do you miss at the holidays?

i don't miss much this year. i've got it all going on from the advent calendar to the tree to the christmas card list. i'm a little more festive this year than i should be allowed.

I'm gonna miss a boyfriend this year!

i'd miss some kind of nice holiday party, or at least some kind of acknowledgement of the holidays other than "can you work on christmas?"

I miss my grandma Hazel. Every time I hear old Bing Crosby type songs I think about her and all the work she did to pull everyone together during the holidays. We don't have family holidays anymore as half the family is here on the west coast and the rest is in Arkansas and to boot, people don't get along and don't want to get together. Looking back, people were acting a fool, but at least we did come together for a little bit, and that I miss the most.

I miss X-Mas Eve festivities.

We'd go to my grams do the dinner buffet things. Always festivea dn for good or worse...family. But it was where we went after that was the best (I know I'd be anxious to go...but never said anything as to not hurt my grams feelings) was going to my mom's best friends house. She'd always have a huge tree (real) and musical xmas lights. SHe also had 2 daughters that were around me and my brothers age so we had kids to play with (we would be the only kids at my grams for about 8 years). We'd have a blast...normally resulting in us kids putting on some sort of dance skit or something.

those were good times.

I miss tamales on Christmas Eve. My Grandma vickie and aunt bell and Tia Concha would cook tamales on Christmas Eve. Tia's gone, grandma and aunt don't have the energy for it anymore. Lots of work. I do miss it very much.

I miss my dad's side of the family getting together, it kinda went out the window when grandma & grandpa lived in Texas for 3/4 of the year. They've begun staying here year round again, but so much of the family has just drifted apart
