My babies!! :D Recently, a friend of mine called me with yet another animal crisis. Some friends of hers got a promotion and were moving to Detroit. They got an apartment that didn't allow pets and were just going to take them to the pound. One of their dogs was a young golden retriever who was adopted right away. The other is a 9 year old basset hound who was kept outside on a chain his entire life. He would've surely been gassed at the pound. They have an adoption rate of less than 3%. I felt worse for the dog than the people. If they wouldn't go out of their way to keep their dog of 9 years, they don't deserve him anyway. I have a friend who does animal rescue and I was going to place the dog with her. But then I met him. And my whole family fell in love. He's so friendly, easy going and sweet. His name is Sir Fang Oliver. I don't know if it fits him, but I'm not about to change it this late in life. He's adapted very well to life with us and seems to be much happier than when we first took him in.
Here he is. And here he is looking out our front window at the lake. Cute huh?

I have an interesting story about my other dog too. There was a neighborhood dog that befriended our Golden Retriever. We called her Girlfriend. She came around daily to play. And then we didn't see her for awhile. When we finally did see her, she was extremely pregnant. I had wanted another dog and really wanted one of her puppies, but had no idea who she belonged to. She just came around for about an hour each day and disappeared. So I tied a note to her collar with my name, phone number and request and got a call about a week later asking if I wanted to come pick out a puppy. Of course, I wanted the runt girl. I named her Indigo because that's what color her eyes were at that time. We instantly bonded and have been as close as can be ever since. I know it's cheesy, but she's one of the most important parts of my entire life.
On our front porch. On her stoop.

Their personalities are about as different as can be. I would've never picked him as a match for Indigo. She's very energetic, playful and intelligent. He's slow, old, small and lazy. But somehow it works. She even gets him to play (with a little coaxing from my brother).

Here he is. Awww he is soooo cute! Kudos to you for adopting Oliver, it feels great to adopt an animal that needs a home. I have 3 cats, and all of them are former strays. I can't understand people who don't want their cat/dog after a certain period of time, especially if you've had the pet for 9 years. I know Oliver found a great home with you and your family. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You got the purrin' now!
What a sweet pair! Bassets are one of my weaknesses, as I can never resist the short legs/them huge ears combination! *phone rings at the Renner's place* "Renner's Zoo, goodmorning!" Hehehe. I love you for being passionate about doggies.

I purposely didn't include any pictures that showcase Fang's wang. It's borderline perverse.
