Books! What you reading?

Hurray! Madonna Reads!

Wasn't that fun, all you Madonna freaks? Seeing Madonna on my most fave kiddies BBC program Blue Peter? Sure was a surprise to me!

Anyways!

I am reading Mister Monday by Garth Nix, book one out of a series I am starting to like way more than Harry Potter.

The Anti-Chomsky Reader - much better and much more scholarly than I was expecting, given David Horowitz's involvement.

I'm reading 'Clash of Kings' by George R. R. Martin, it's second volume of 'the Song of Fire and Ice'. Very good epic fantasy.

Ana Funder's Stasiland. It's a collection of stories of life in the GDR. It's an essential insight into the totalitarian regime and, whether intended or not, is also a warning about the manipulation of truth, the erosion of civil liberties and the consequences of perpetual surveillance.

"David Played A Harp" by Ralph Johnson, who was a barber in the town where i work. in this autobiography, he details the depression years and racial tensions in this small southern town. i haven't gotten to that point yet, but i understand that college students protested in the 60s against this black barber, who served only while clients. very interesting stuff, i highly recommend it.

"The High King" By Lloyd Alexander. It's the final book in The Chronicals of Prydain series- classic "children's" fantasy series. It was my favorite growing up and I'm almost done re-reading it.

04. The Foundation Pit - Platonov censored censored

05. Junky - William S Burroughs stoned chill pill

06. De Joodse Messias (The Jewish Messiah) - Arnon Grunberg evillol bored

07. Kartonnen Dozen (Cardboard Boxes) - Tom Lanoye jerkoff kisses

So here is the deal. I finished that book like two nano seconds after I posted. It is THAT good. I love good kiddie books. And like I said; fuck Harry Potter; onto Arthur Penthaglion!

In the meantime I finished Grim Tuesday and I am SO bummed out that I have to wait like FOUR MONTHS to read Drownded Wednesday, which will be finished in ONE day.

Bugger.

Oek de Jong - Cirkel in het gras

Kinda weird, but I like it though. Very cold and warm at the same time. And truly poetic.

My boyfriend is finally reading 'Gloed' (Glow?) by the Hungarian writer Sandor Marai. I read this book two years ago and I loved it. Anyone else read this book?

How is it? I struggled myself through 'Portrait of an artist as and old man' by the same author... I found it boring as hell, but maybe his bestseller is better for real !

How on Earth do any of you find the time to read?

I don't think I've read a book in over two years and that was a pulpy trashy biography of Tony Curtis.
