Rather than cram too many characters into the movie, ultimately not spending enough time with them, they just introduce them briefly enough that we get a tease of things to come. The character gets established, but not too in-depth.

That would kick ass! They could then do a second film that was based on the Kitty Pride/Wolverine mini, since it featured a whole lot of those plot points. Wolvie could have his own franchise, as well as being an X-Man (much like the comics!).
