What you should do is meet up WITH the manager as a mediator. Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. Maybe I misunderstood the update though. Maybe the manager WILL in fact be there?? No you didn't misunderstand. All she said was "The neighbor upstairs wants to talk to you about the noise." and hung up. I'm going to leave the manager a message and tell her I will not talk to her unless it is in the manager's office with the manager there [Edited 12/9/04 0:28am]

I'm having a neighbour war at the moment as well. But I am actually comlaining, which is kind of ironic being a long-haired, black nail polish & combat boots -wearing powernoise-blasting anorexic and filing a complaint on a respectable family of two highly-educated forty-somethings with two children.
I called the manager a few days ago and when he asked me who the neighbours were he went "oh, fucking hell!". I knew I wasn't complaining for nothing.

Well, first - relax. It seems you're still very angry about it, and it'll only make you react in a way that will make you look bad. Be calm, nice and show that you are willing to talk and clear things up. Don't look like you're going to battle. And don't stress yourself over it, it won't help in any way.

hmmm. i dunno jan. i remember reading your other post when you were complaining because your neighbor said you and your stereo were too loud.
now you say that neighbor moved away, another neighbor moved in, and the new neighbor is also complaining about your noise? much as i love your posts up in here i'm really glad i don't live anywhere near you.

This one has knocked on my door 4 times in 4 months, not including her calls to the community patrol. Plus, I am within the house rules

Janfriend said: UPDATE #2: I called the manager to see what she meant by the message she left and she said the neighbor wants to talk to me about a compromise. I told her I would not meet with her unless is was in the office with the manager there. The manager said that it was fine and I told when I was available. She said the community patrol guy misunderstood the dispatcher. The dispatcher said "You better get down there before this person calls 6 times" not that there were 6 calls. I asked the manager what the neighbor told her and she said the neighbor said I was lying about her noise upstairs and that she walks normally and she isn't home at 3 in the morning because she's working. WTF No she didn't! So, I guess I am imagining the moans and creeking bed that wakes me out of my sleep. The manager said she can't take sides and the property management co told her it's not her job to handle it. The manager should take sides if I'm following the house rules of the complex, no? She will get back to me when the other neighbor is avaiable for a meeting. I'm so stressed and disgusted about this that I had a bad day today Ugghhhhh.....like I said b4. I feel 4 u. I wish I had $420k so that I could be a homeowner and not have 2 deal with sharing walls w/ morons

[Edited 12/10/04 1:57am] The dispatcher told you: "You better get down there before this person calls 6 times"? What kind of bullshit comment is that??? What makes it worse is your neighbor blatently lying about it, and the manager telling you that she can't take sides, and the property management company told her it's not her job to handle it. WTF, so what exactly DOES the manager do all day? Isn't it her job to handle and resolve disputes between neighbors??? You did the right thing by telling the manager that you needed to meet with him/her AND the bitchy neighbor. I know what you mean about having a bad day due to your neighbors starting shit. I can't tell you the number of days that I've been pissed about the shenanigans that my neighbors have done downstairs. Best of luck to you. [Edited 12/10/04 8:37am] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The property management company sounds like they're trying to decrease their own liability. Right now, it is the sole responsibility of the complex manager to diffuse this situation before it escalates.

At my previous apartment, the person living next to me was in an "efficiency" apartment, meaning his bedroom was his living room. My bedroom was right next to him, so every night as soon as I'd lay down to sleep, he'd come home and turn the TV on till 4 in the morning.
It's not that he had it cranked up, or was being unreasonably noisy, but the walls were paper thin and the building had a poor layout. There were many nights I had to go into the other room and sleep on the couch just to get to sleep. What may be a party for you might be another workday for someone else.
