It was a great cartoon that Bill Cosby did in the 70s smile

Back in the 70s we only had one TV channel here, and mostly with Israeli programs. only in the late 80's we got another channel, and in the mid 90s we finally had cable TV, with more channels to watch.

nod Agreed. The cartoon was cool when I was growing up in the 70's. However, the movie concept is too damn corny.

the costumes alone look really, really bad.

i don't see why they couldn't have made an animated fat albert movie and used young/famous voice talent and have ol' cos do narration again. why screw around with the formula, when we haven't gotten fat albert cartoons in so long that there's a whole generation of kids who don't even know who he is?

ugh. rolleyes

Dumb Donald just looks...well, dumb. That hat is wrong in so many ways. Looks like they went to Odd Lots, bought a girl's winter cap, and cut holes in it. disbelief. A friend of mine told me that Cosby is executive producing. We at least know where to point the finger! smile

The only reason why they decided to do a "movie" of it 'cause Fat Albert's face is on FUBU jeans, t-shirts, and other popular urban apparel that appeals to some of the younger generation. For the last year, the Fat Albert Tees have been VERY popular.

You know... it may have a really good script that stays true to the character of Fat Albert.

Give it a chance, at least they got his costume correct!

Forrest Whitaker was the original director until he and the Cos had STRONG disagreement about the direction of the film. Whitaker wanted it to be more contemporary/realistic, while Cosby wanted it to be just like the cartoon. Guess who won?

Cosby has been to my state - NJ - alot the past few months, speaking out against the "ills of the ghetto". Maybe it's just me, but he's always come across as somewhat bitter and not-too-nice.

He makes some valid points, though.

Cute, but this film just illustrates my argument that getting the costume right isn't the most important thing. If you take one look at the trailer, you'll see how lame this flick is going to be. Fat Albert and his gang come OUT OF THE TV AND GET TRAPPED IN THE REAL WORLD! How frigging lame is that?? Didn't they learn their lesson from The Last Action Hero???

Oh, and word is, the script is waaaaay worse than Garfield

Bill is getting older, but it's not as though this is his first box office misstep. Does anyone else remember "The Devil & Max Devlin", "Leonard Part 6" or "Ghost Dad"? He was much younger then -- all those films were released in the 80's.

This movie does not look good to me at all -- and if the previews are highlighting the best aspects of the film, then fuggedaboutit.

That said, I would love to know more about Forest Whitaker's ideas regarding the direction of this film...
