Books! What you reading? Hurray! Madonna Reads!
Wasn't that fun, all you Madonna freaks? Seeing Madonna on my most fave kiddies BBC program Blue Peter? Sure was a surprise to me! Anyways! I am reading Mister Monday by Garth Nix, book one out of a series I am starting to like way more than Harry Potter.

The Anti-Chomsky Reader - much better and much more scholarly than I was expecting, given David Horowitz's involvement. [Edited 11/26/04 16:15pm]

Ana Funder's Stasiland. It's a collection of stories of life in the GDR. It's an essential insight into the totalitarian regime and, whether intended or not, is also a warning about the manipulation of truth, the erosion of civil liberties and the consequences of perpetual surveillance.

"David Played A Harp" by Ralph Johnson, who was a barber in the town where i work. in this autobiography, he details the depression years and racial tensions in this small southern town. i haven't gotten to that point yet, but i understand that college students protested in the 60s against this black barber, who served only while clients. very interesting stuff, i highly recommend it.

"The High King" By Lloyd Alexander. It's the final book in The Chronicals of Prydain series- classic "children's" fantasy series. It was my favorite growing up and I'm almost done re-reading it.

I've been on a reading binge these past two weeks
I've spent almost every free minute crawling up with some food and drink and a (good) book. Heres the list in order of appreciation: 01. Pale Fire - Vladimir Nabokov 02. La Reine Margot - Alexandre Dumas 03. Christ in Flanders - Balzac 04. The Foundation Pit - Platonov 05. Junky - William S Burroughs 06. De Joodse Messias (The Jewish Messiah) - Arnon Grunberg 07. Kartonnen Dozen (Cardboard Boxes) - Tom Lanoye and yesterday nite I read the introduction to If Beale St. Could Talk by James Baldwin and I'm looking forward to the end of work so I can lounge in bed and start reading it and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

So here is the deal. I finished that book like two nano seconds after I posted. It is THAT good. I love good kiddie books. And like I said; fuck Harry Potter; onto Arthur Penthaglion! In the meantime I finished Grim Tuesday and I am SO bummed out that I have to wait like FOUR MONTHS to read Drownded Wednesday, which will be finished in ONE day. Bugger.

Oek de Jong - Cirkel in het gras
Kinda weird, but I like it though. Very cold and warm at the same time. And truly poetic. My boyfriend is finally reading 'Gloed' (Glow?) by the Hungarian writer Sandor Marai. I read this book two years ago and I loved it. Anyone else read this book?

How is it? I struggled myself through 'Portrait of an artist as and old man' by the same author... I found it boring as hell, but maybe his bestseller is better for real !

I don't think I've read a book in over two years and that was a pulpy trashy biography of Tony Curtis.
