Keeping Plants I'm really into collecting plants at the moment and my room contains a rubber plant, chinese bamboo and a few others. The only problem is keeping them! Sure, exposure to light and water is the natural thing for them, but they seem to die too quickly either by my own neglect or by giving them what I think is possibly too much water. Any tips so that they will keep longer?

it can be difficult to keep plants, especially if they're exotic plants. my biggest problem was being to overzealous and feeding, watering, and repotting too much. Lots of time a plant will florish if you just let it be and give quality attention sparingly.

what's it look like? The plant or my tiki-lounge porch? The plant is green and looks like some kind of lush fern or something. It goes well with the bamboo lining my porch and the tiki-themed chairs. (Notice how that answers for both... ) |

Draughts, large temperature fluctuations or intense sunlight can have a very bad affect on some tropical plants. Rubber plants may be 'tropical', but their dark green leaves suggest that they've evolved in shady places. Make sure they aren't by a radiator, a south facing window, or a draughty area
I love plants as well, and used to have a coconut palm in my room Until I had a party and some stoned fucker tripped out and through it through the window of my 5th floor flat ..... BULLSEYE!

You have to talk to them JD
All plants are different, This time of year can be really bad for houseplants especially if you have heating on at night and in the morning then off during the day, fluctuations in temp really piss them off as doo draughty places. Unless you keep a really warm/hot home, plants hardly need watering at all over the winter. I have never used feed, but I repot every 2 years and try to replace most of the compost. Most my plants seem happy, except a Bonsai tree I got for my 30th Birthday that died this weekend Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!
