Depends if the person you're downloading from was given the rights to distribute those songs.

The people they're taking to court, are just few, and those are people who are downloading music all day long. ones that have hundreds of illegal copes of songs. Not someone who downloaded one song they really liked and that was it.

well, obviously, if you're downloading from an official site, you're not going to get in trouble. if you're on something like kazaa, you're going to have to use your discretion or else know that you're taking a risk.

OK...they just took another slew of folks to court. I'd say if you are getting it from Kazaa or any P2P...be careful. I download some...but not a lot. And if you are going to download, download the hard to find stuff not anything brand new and popular. Try to keep less than 1000 music files on your harddrive at any one time.

Did something happen to you or are ya just wondering? If you got a summons or a notice by your internet company...I'd say it's serious and real. Call them though just to make sure.

I dunno if I am that protected...but I use Kazaa's old 1.2 version...I never upgraded to all the spyware crap they have now.

i told u this before... it's not illegal to download music... it's illegal to upload music (example file sharing, bitch swapping)

I use bit torrent. It's a little puzzling to me though. I was on suprnova (and bit tornado) and searched for prince and got this file that was over 400Mbs called 'Prince 1983 to 1991 unreleased' or something similar. I started downloading it and got to about 10% and wanted to stop it for a while. I thought I could resume, but for some reason I couldn't. I decided to click on the files (or what there was of them so far) and though one might say 'Good Man' it'd be just a mish-mash of all the files listed, and even some that weren't. I don't get it.

Is it really that risky? I just download unreleased Prince tracks, but it seems there's nothing more on p2p than what I have already.

Kazaa is a waste of time nowdays. Torrents are the way to go. They can be slow to complete, but if you set a few albums to download, and go to bed, when you wake up in the morning, theyre done.
