HELP! I'm simmering bratwursts in beer - do I need to poke the skin? Or do I just leave the skin intact? Will the skin keep the beer flavor out? HELP!

Depends on who you're poking.

Is this a thinly vieled attempt to revive the CUT/UNCUT penis thread?

Just to update everyone on the org....
I ended up NOT poking my brats...I simmered them in tasty Coors Light (hey, I went to college in Colorado - that's like liquid heaven out there) for about 2 and a half hours...I then promptly tossed them onto my family size George Forman grill...I grilled them for approximately 10 minutes and then proceeded to eat all 5. Yes - that was a terrible way for the Dookster to get un-fat. But, it definitely was a tasty way for him to enjoy beer simmered brats. My overall opinion: the way I prepared my brats for grilling was not worth the time and effort put in. The flavor was okay (I should have kept one brat out of the beer to make the taste test more "scientific"), but I don't think I'll be doing it again. Perhaps someone will give me a tasty recipe and detailed instructions on how exactly to prepare brats in beer (I've heard onion is a good addition), but until then, I will be throwing my brats right on the grill.

You should have poked holes in them. That would have allowed the beer to penetrate the brats and they would have gotten more flavor from the beer. Also, as fucked up as this sounds, if ya use a cheap ass nasty beer like old milwaukee, you may get even better results.
Trust me, I'm a food service peon, I know these things

Trust me, I'm a food service peon, I know these things Thanks! I might have to do this next weekend! I wasn't sure because a couple web sites I looked at told me not to boil the brats because this would make them explode...I thought that meant that the skin should stay intact. But, I will try your method and let you know how it goes (I know you'll be waiting in anticipation!!! hahaha)
