i decided to stop smoking today! i bought some Nicotine patches yesterday, i've decided i really want to stop and besides it's too damn expensive, my beloved Marlboro Lights are touching £5 now in the UK.
BTW, this stoppage includes too, when i was without, i found i couldn't sleep properly and i was easily aggravated. So no more of that either. Wish me luck cause i'm going to have a real good go at this!

I'd love to stop smoking but I admit I do enjoy it. The scary/sad thing is the thought of trying to quit knowing that my when I reach the end of my last one that will be it.
Well done Marrk. | |

thanks JD!
Early days. i did go through what you described last night, i got down to my last duty-free Dominican Republic Malboro Light (very Strong!!!) and i was thinking about it. Smoked it, didn't enjoy it and thought "Well, that's that!" Got up this morning, put my patch on, went to town and spent a fiver on something else. I know it's going to be hard, as unfortunately i have very little willpower but i'm determined to do this. I'm 35 next and have smoked since i was 15, so enough is enough. I was genuinly getting a feeling it was going to kill me in the end (It still might) so i had to stop for myself and for my nearest and dearest. I might put a few pounds on but i'm kinda skinny anyway, besides it'll be worth it i'm sure. i guess i need to change my avvie now too! . [Edited 11/22/04 12:19pm]

Good for you Marrk ... I gave up a few years ago now and it's the best gift I have given myself. My husband has given up Marlboro Lights for 2 weeks now, and it's hell! ... But it'll be worth it in the end ... if I can stay married that long.
But, well done - keep it up!

Quitting smoking is a GREAT decision. I found that when I quit smoking a little over 2 years ago that by taking up running as a hobby it made it a lot easier to quit smoking because obviously running and smoking don't go hand in hand.
Don't forget once you quit you and all your things will smell better Good luck.

MARRK!!!
U WILL DO IT. I have quit for 2 weeks 2day, i am famous for quitting everyone takes the piss. i am 25, been smoking for 9 years up until now. What helped me stop this time... a reccurin dream of having glass in my throat. No one in my dream would beleive me and those that did gave me no pity coz i swallowed the glass my self. I was in pain and no one cared. Now when I wanna smoke, i think of glass in my throat and it makes me cringe and feel ill. Sorry if this is disturbin, it helps me. Anyway. u can and will do it. Its a myth that its really hard 2 stop, created by the companies like Marlboro themselves probably. They love your money but will happily watch U die. Do it. Congratulations on ya decision. peace.

Why you'd want to give up the smoky treats is beyond me, Marrk. But, if you insist on depriving yourself of the wholesome goodness that is a fine tobacco product, you might want to investigate the book Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. A friend of mine swears it helped her quit a lifelong habit and I've picked it up myself. One of these days I hope to finish it.

Good luck Mark.
My hubby just got his patches today as well. He gets so grumpy when he stops smoking, but I'm always glad that he's stopped. He stopped once for 3 years. I hope this time it's permanent for him and for you! I'm firmly planted in denial

Wish me luck cause i'm going to have a real good go at this! Well done to you To reinforce your will (if you need it), try this book.... I bought it after it was recommended to me by loads of ex-smokers. Apparently, it's just like it says on the cover! All the best and keep it going "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

You should combine it with a juice fast for 7 days.
Or if you're brave enough a water fast. I haven't smoke in 10 years and have no interest.

God. The only reason I actually go out to work is so that I can afford to buy cigarettes. Otherwise, I'd just go on the dole.
I live to smoke. | |

Wish me luck cause i'm going to have a real good go at this! I quit smoking recently. It'll be 3 months w/out this coming Tuesday. My doc gave me Wellbutrin which is an anti-depressent that helps you quit. It worked for me...but I also REALLY wanted to quit. The drug helped in the beginning to get over the withdrawl but now its all up to my willpower. I STILL get urges when I go out and have a few beers with friends who smoke...but I just keep telling myself NO and the urge passes. Believe you can do it and you'll do it. As for the evil weed...I quit that back in college (about 10 years ago)...I was getting addicted to that too...I remember being REALLY pissed that I was out and thats when I realized I needed to stop. It scarred the hell out of me so I stopped and haven't touched it since. That wasn't near as hard as cigarettes.
