THE BREAKFAST CLUB - Overrated so-so movie

I mean, how in the hell does E. Esteves pass as a popular "teenage" guy?
Or J. Nelson come off as a convincing "teenage" badboy?

How does anyone in this movie except Anthony Michael Hall NOT look look like people in their Mid 20's recited horrible lines to an awkward script?

16 candles was by far a more entertaining film.

Hell, John Kuzak was a more convincing teenager in "Better off Dead"

I'm sorry--I just don't get people's fascination with this movie.

the only one of those '80s hughes movies i could get into was "some kind of wonderful", and that was just because mary stuart masterson was an androgynous drummer who liked punk rock. i really couldn't get with the molly trilogy, and those movies came out when i was in high school. go figure. shrug

Is it wrong to like Ferris Bueller's Day off? That and sixteen candles were the best of the Teen movies around that time. Another overlooked good one from that era was Real Genius with Kilmer, my fave character was the dude who lived in the basement, don't ask me why?

I've always loved it, same with Pretty in Pink.

It isn't supposed to be great art, it's supposed to be escapist fun.

Sixteen Candles I never got into as much as Weird Science

Some Kind of Wonderful is a great movie-Mary especially, but Lea Thompson does a great job as well.

As for John Cusack-I'll stick with High Fidelity-teen or not.

I think The Breakfast Club is a good, little movie. OK, so it is kinda cliched but the film plays well on teenagers' instinctive belief that the world is against them. There is some great one-liners ('Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?') and funny moments (Anthony Michael Hall becoming Mr Cool after smoking dope for the first time). It shows what teenagers doing what they do best-experimenting.

The Breakfast Club is one of the few DVD's I own. thumbs up!

Interesting story... this past March, I bought a laptop that can read/burn DVD's. To test it out, I put in my copy of The Breakfast Club. According to the voice-over at the beginning of the movie, it took place twenty years prior, to the exact date, to my DVD drive test.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

While, Emilio and Judd did look OLDER than teenagers, i still think it worked in the movie... It wasn't the greatest... it was a popcorn movie, but that was a lot of what was going on in the 80's... It was popular and it was a hit.. It is still one of my favorite no brainer movies!

I looooove this film. I was totally obsessed with Ally Sheedy after it. I also liked the others (Pretty In Pink, St Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, etc.)

But Some Kind of Wonderful was and always will be my favorite from this group of films.

Isn't a vinyl copy of the 1999 album owned by one of the characters in The Breakfast Club? I think the cover is actually shown on screen for a split second in order to demonstrate the character's weirdness (because she's a Prince fan).

Or maybe this was a different movie. confused

I heart The Breakfast Club.

Brian: I just wanna tell, each of you, that I wouldn't do that...I wouldn't and I will not! 'Cause I think that's real sh*tty.

Claire: Your friends wouldn't mind because they look up to us.

Brian: You're so conceited, Claire. You're so conceited. You're so, like, full of yourself, why are you like that?

Claire: (crying again) I'm not saying that to be conceited! I hate it! I hate having to go along with everything my friends say!

Brian: Then why do you do it?

Claire: I don't know, I don't...you don't understand, you don't. You're not friends with the same kind of people that Andy and I are friends with! You know, you just don't understand the pressure that they can put on you!

I watch it every time it comes on late night cable channels like TBS and USA!

I've seen Some Kind of Wonderful" countless times, but I still check it out whenever they show it on cable (which is a lot). Fell in love with Mary Stuart Masterson because of that movie. Elias Koteas is cool, too as the skinhead tough guy. Craig Sheffer played the asshole boyfriend role to the hilt.

It's a well-cast classic!
