Roller Derby???

So I found a girl online that I used to kinda hang out with back in the day. She manages a roller derby team and I think I'm gonna check it out.

Anyone here do it? Or go to one? I'm wondering how rough they are. I mean I can hold my own, I don't care about a few broken bones but it's my teeth I'm worried about!

I think it would be a blast...as long as you can skate well enough.

Yeah I'm good on regular roller skates. I used to be on a speed team when I was younger. I'm just not good with roller blades...i can't stop! hahaha

lol I can't stop on those either! I was a figure (ice) skater when I was younger and I do not do well on those roller thingies!
As far as the teeth go, I think you can get a guard for them...but, look at all of the hockey players...hmm...I don't know.

One question ... what's a roller derby? I don't think we have those here.

It's a bunch of girls that rollerskate around a rink and throw each other over the railings and kick each other's asses! I not exactly sure how they determine who wins...maybe it's a race for so many laps and you have to try to knock as many people down or something.

Oh lord!

When I was about 12 we use to watch Roller Derby on TV..

Those girls were tough. They would beat the crap out of each other. Knock each other out of the rink. Elbow jabs, it was violent.

I used to rollerskate. Roller Derby is the same idea except you push, punch, etc. to lighten the other teams load - the more you knock off.

I don't think it's as violent anymore but we'll see. I'm a good skater and I can hold my own. It might be good to take out my aggressions! hahahaa

Heavenly

I love roller skating. haven't gotten used to roller blades yet, and I can't stop either.
I use to do high jumps and long jumps of skates. Always wanted to play hockey on skates but never had a chance.

Girls on skates beating each other sounds like my kind of game to watch biggrin

This is from memory as a kid growing up. I believe there are 5 skaters on the rink at once, 2 jammers, 2 blockers, and a captain from each team. Only the jammers or the captain can score points. At the beginning of each race, one or both of the jammers (or captain) on each team race ahead of the "pack" (everybody else). Once they catch up to the pack, each skater on the opposing team they pass counts as a point. The blockers can prevent the opposing jammers from scoring by knocking them down or out of the rink. They can also aid the jammers by blocking or swinging their teammates ahead. The "jam" ends when the lead jammer signals the end by placing his/her hands on their hips (think offsides signal in football). Hilarity and a good time ensues.
