No more Birdy One of the rarest birds in the world, the Po'ouli, has died last week in a Hawaiian zoo. That bird has been one of only three that is left in the world, and the other two haven't been seen for two years now. It was found in September and was brought in to try and breed it, but no luck, because they couldn't find a female of it's kind. The other two birds, who are assumed to be male and female, have not been seen in two years. The options are that they might have died, or moved to another area, or just weren't spotted by bird watchers. Even if they are found, they have to be cought and bred, which it's not even sure if they ARE male and female. It's a rare occasion where scientists can actually set a date of extinct. But they did take tissue samples from the bird and frozen them, so hopefully in the future it can be cloned. [Edited 12/7/04 20:52pm]

...and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what will happen more and more as the years roll by if we don't learn now to protect and preserve our wildlife and this earth
that's just so, so sad | |

that's just so, so sad That's for sure! It's sad when an animal becomes extinct. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

where are they native too? Judging from the name of the bird (Po'ouli), I would have to say Hawaii. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
