Has This Ever Happened to You? Today I went to the drugstore to pick up a few items. I was walking towards the cash register to check out, when an older lady stopped me and asked me where something was. The older gentlemen who was with her (I'm assuming her husband), told her that I didn't work there. I told the woman that no, I didn't work at the store, and that I had no idea where the item was that she was trying to find.
This has happened to me several times, when I've been in a store and someone confused me for one of the workers. Once when my mom and I were in a store in Florida getting groceries for our stay, I had someone ask me if I worked at the store. Of course, I told them no. It cracks me up when this happens, because I don't understand why people tend to mistake me for a storeworker. It could be because both times that I was stopped and asked this question, I was kind of dressed up. But then again, at the stores I was in when this happened, I don't think even the managers get all that dressed up. Has this ever happened to you when someone mistook you for a manager or someone who worked at the store? Feel free to share your story. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Sending people on a wild goose chase. Kind of like back in high school when you're a freshman and you ask an upperclassman where the lunchroom is, and they purposely give you the wrong directions. I actually had that happen to me once. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You must always look very neat and profesional I once wore a red short sleeved shirt with black jeans to IKEA once and I was practically chased around the store by desperate customers trying to get some help to find their way out of there!!!

I get that though-people asking me where stuff is and they don't believe me for a sec when I say I don't work there. I do that outside my job too.

People don't believe you even when you tell them that you're not an employee of the store? That's even funnier. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The hardware store always has the best products. "Yes, it is standard to have a diaphragm made of metal."

It's happened to me many times. The most memorable time was when I was walking through a teen/college girls clothing store and I was holding a pile of shirts I'd picked out. As I was walking through the racks of clothing, looking through the shirts, I noticed this woman and a younger girl who I assumed to be her daughter were staring at me, whispering to each other and inching ever closer. After about 15 minutes of trying to get away from them and getting really creeped out, the woman got mad and said in a huff "well can my daughter try these on or not?!". The daughter then hissed "what a bitch! She saw us here for how long, and she didn't ask if we needed help! What kind of store IS this?" I looked at them both for a minute, still in shock, and then just calmly told them I didn't work there. The mother replied "God, they'll say anything to get out of helping people. Teenage girls are so lazy these days." The real employees literally were standing behind the counter with the dumbest looks on their faces, letting these people yell at me just so they wouldn't have to come deal with their customers. So I put my shirts back and left, thinking that lady was right but I didn't deserve to get caught in the middle of it, especially since I'm not a teenager anymore and I'm NOT lazy. What a weird day.
Most of the other times I get mistaken for an employee, it's at familiar pet stores and I can usually help anyway. I reject your reality and substitute my own.
