matt said: 4) If you're into snob appeal (or "geek cred"), Gmail gives you something that "everyday people" can't have. But actually, as this thread demonstrates, Gmail invites aren't that hard to come by if you really want one. When Gmail was launched back in the spring, invites were going for $100+ on eBay. But at some point around June, Google seriously increased the availability of invites. Most users quickly get six invites of their own to distribute, with additional invites given to them periodically. Today, a Gmail invite sells for around $3 on eBay. It's just one of those things that might come in handy, so why pass up on it, right?

Okay, I'm giving away two more Gmail invites to the first two people who orgNote me with their email address. Wow! If you're interested, please turn off any spam blocking before sending me your request. Some competing email providers are flagging Gmail invites as spam. And even if you've got blocking turned off, be aware that spam filtering may still intercept the invite... for example, Yahoo! email is known to send Gmail invites straight into the "Bulk Mail" folder. You mean if you already have an account? They magically appear in the bottom left hand area of the inbox screen. Gmail just changed that... now they appear in the upper right hand area of the Inbox screen. Anyway, I had no takers on the second of my two Gmail invites, so I'm assuming that everyone who wants Gmail has been able to get an invite. If you orgNote me with your email address, I'll still give you an invite (if I have one to distribute), but I'm no longer reserving them for .org users. The best thing about Gmail as opposed to Hotmail is that MSN are phasing out pop3 access via Outlook whereas Gmail are phasing it in!
http://www.wininsider.com/news/?7475 The second-best thing is the Gmail spam filter. Hotmail's filter had a limit to how many email addresses you could place on your "ignore" list. Gmail's spam filter appears to have an unlimited "allow" list.

Though I do love my fastmail, should anybody actually wish to PAY for email.
