Yeah, and I'd also like to get her and Estelle Getty in a nasty, lurid threesome.

Yeah, and I'd also like to get her and Estelle Getty in a nasty, lurid threesome. Totally gross. She couldn't hold a candle to Bea.

I would ask Bea if she knows what dirty act can give you ringworm on your boobies? When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Do you guys know that her show was the first one to ever discuss abortion (she had one on the show). You'd never see that today. Funny...we sorta regressed there. But it was one of the only times it was openly discussed and decided on Prime Time TV. Her show tackled many issues like that.
Bea rocks...and when she eventually leaves us, it will be a loss. Christian Zombie Vampires

You're right, we have regressed. Soap was the first. However the plot lines that revolved around Jodie...were he got a girl preggers and was willing to leave his gayness at the door to marry her (only to have her leave him). ANd then there's Alice his lesbian roommate and the two of them start dating. They never really showed him happy with another guy. Then again...this is by memory and from seeing the first 2 seasons. I understand that it made for the Soaplike ...leave no dish unturned drama...and they had a huge gay audience. But I watch it now and see that though they were accepting of gays, however still had to give in to all the stereo type jokes. They never let Jodie be gay really. Burts reaction to anything gay is especially disturbing to me. But hey it's only a show and it DID pave the way for many things to come and the acceptance of having a gay character on TV. I know that in real life it's a give and take thing. Even Dynasty had to give and take a little...and even that character went straight. Christian Zombie Vampires

Dynasty is just crazy though! I think the John Waters episode of the Simpsons handled things pretty nicely-although if you look at the early 50's sitcoms, you've gotta wonder how exactly gay characters were going to bring anything down. Sleeping in seperate beds? TV has come far, but not always for the better.
