It's becuase of evolution.
Looks are a predetermined factor of being selected as a mate. As a result, the opposite sex reacts instinctively to please you. It's built into us. 20/20 did a show back in the 90's that showed that kids from infancy pay much closer attention to pretty faces. In the same study it showed that good looking people going into job interviews tend to come out with much more favorable results then ugly persons. They had attractive models go in for interviews and the attractive models where told to give short answers and appear as boring as possible. The models still scored better in results then thier less attractive actors who where much more engaging during the interviews. I personally love good looking people. I think people should just stop being so acidic towards the pretty people and let them do their thing. It's their job to look better than other poeple. All of us have our own strengths. I mean, I wouldn't want some GQ runway model performing dentistry on me or anything. But if I'm watching a movie, I'd prefer the main characters to not be eyesoars.

I think to an extent it is natural selection, but I think that it's also societies conditioning. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Looking good helps. he doesn't do a thing for me physically (i know, i'll get stoned for saying that here on the org... ) i do agree that looking a certain way has its advantages. but you can also buy into the hype too much... it's always good to have something going for yourself outside your looks - no matter where you score on the current attractiveness scale.

Beautiful people. Some of them are also beautiful on the inside.
Nice thing about beauty, different things work for different people. One of my best friends like women with a bigger size. ADORES them. While Vogue wants to force a kind of look on young women. The fun thing is; this friend of mine modelled for Boss. So quite a stunning guy to look at, Vogue-wise. It's funny he hates them skinny women. By now he is married to a real nice woman who became my friend too. I love them. They have beautiful children.
